Rams Make Noteworthy Contact With Trade Deadline Approaching

Sean McVay and the Los Angeles Rams could have another surprise move in them before the 2025 trade deadline passes.

However, making a worthwhile move has proven easier said than done so far.

The Rams already made one such move, acquiring cornerback Roger McCreary from the Tennessee Titans. It is unclear if they are seeking further upgrades to their secondary, but that was among the positions of players they reached out about.

Rams Unable to Gain Traction With Bengals on Trade

The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported on the Rams’ interest in doing a deal with the 2021 Super Bowl opponent, and how they and every other team that has inquired have so far come up short.

“Many teams, including the Rams, 49ers, Lions, Colts and Eagles, have called the Bengals on numerous players, including LB Logan Wilson, CB Cam Taylor-Britt and, of course, DE Trey Hendrickson,” Russini wrote on November 1. “For now, some teams don’t believe Cincinnati has any real interest in moving its core pieces.”

The lack of clarification around who in that group the Rams targeted adds intrigue to a trade deadline that has produced more speculation than splash moves so far.

For the Rams, that leaves myriad positions to upgrade before the deadline, even corner.

Armed with two first-round picks in the 2026 draft, the Rams have been a speculative landing spot for several players before the deadline, including some long-shot scenarios. There is a growing consensus that they should be buyers at the deadline, though.

ESPN’s Bill Barnwell listed cornerback, linebacker, and kicker as their “biggest needs,” writing on October 30 that “With Matthew Stafford flirting with retirement (or a new contract) on seemingly an annual basis, the Rams have to consider adding more talent around their veterans if they want to win another ring.”

In that same piece, Barwell’s colleague, Aaron Schatz, suggested offensive line depth, while Seth Walder singled out tight end Colby Parkinson as a trade candidate.

Also in that article, Dan Graziano pointed to the defense as the side of the ball to target.

“Especially if they can find help at the second or third levels of their defense or just good roster depth. This team is a real contender that knows it’s in the latter part of quarterback Matthew Stafford’s career and would love to make one more run with him.”

Graziano noted the Rams had acquired McCreary, so they could have had as much interest in Taylor-Britt as Wilson.

Hendrickson may be the only unlikely candidate, with Byron Young and Jared Verse in tow.

McVay stirred the pot a bit with his comments regarding the trade deadline after the Rams landed McCreary.

“I wouldn’t say no,” McVay told reporters on October 29. “It’s not something that we’ve really talked about. I think if certain opportunities arise that you feel like it gives you a chance to be able to significantly upgrade your football team.”

McVays said he feels “really good” about who the Rams have.

However, he expressed similar sentiments about the Rams’ corners earlier in the season before changing his tune, and that was before Darious Williams got banged up.
