Rams Named Top 10 In Player-Coaching Duo

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford has been in the news lately due to concerns with his back injury and the possibility of him not playing in week 1 of the 2025-26 season.

Stafford returned to practice last week and appears on track to be ready for the regular season, ending all speculation that he won’t be.

The Rams have been one of the better teams in the league since acquiring Stafford from the Detroit Lions, having made the playoffs three times since trading for him four seasons ago.

Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay said that the quarterback had a great field of vision and able to speed up the game if he had issues when he acquired the QB in the trade. The pair have won a Super Bowl in the 2021-22 season and appear to be contenders for the championship next season.

With how well the pair are, they were ranked as the sixth-best QB-head coaching duo in the league by Fansided.

“We’ll see how this one holds up in 2025. The Los Angeles Rams continue to bump up against Father Time, and yet L.A. was still the only team to give the Philadelphia Eagles a real run for their money last postseason,” Christopher Kline wrote.

“Matthew Stafford, even at 37 years old, remains something of a wizard. There’s a reason every anonymous NFL coaches and scout raves about him. He is the benchmark for evaluating a lot of your quintessential quarterback traits.”

Age Holding Up Matthew Stafford?

There was much concern around Matthew Stafford’s back injury with some people believing his age and injuries could force the QB to return.

Can Stafford and his 37-year-old back hold up? It’s a looming question after he missed much of the summer with a disk issue. If he’s healthy, the Rams are going to be a top-tier contender with talent galore on both sides of the ball,” Matt Verderame wrote for Sports Illustrated.

Sean McVay has affirmed during the preseason that if the regular season were to be happening, Stafford would be practicing and playing without any restrictions.

The former Georgia has been training in full pads recently and appears to be fine without him back hindering on the practice field.

With the acquisitions the Rams made in the offseason, Stafford and McVay are lining the team up for a second Super Bowl in 4 years.

Weapon Additions To The Offense

The best way to help your quarterback is to have a good support cast for them. Los Angeles made some key moves in the offseason to help Matthew Stafford on game days.

In wake of Cooper Kupp moving to an in-division rival, the Rams signed Davante Adams in his place. LA used a second-round pick on tight end Terrance Ferguson in the 2025 NFL Draft. The team extended running back Kyren Williams to a three-year deal.

While there has been some talk of Stafford retiring, he signed a two-year extension, keeping his career going a bit longer.

The Rams gave the QB the tools to succeed this upcoming season. His back injury seems to no longer be an issue as much. The 2025-26 year could be a positive outcome for the Rams.
