Rashawn Slater’s Wife Calls Out Reporter Over Divorce Comments

T

he 2025 NFL season has not yet started, and already, there are reporters in hot water. On July 28, the Los Angeles Chargers reached an agreement with star left tackle, Rashawn Slater, on a new four-year, $114 million extension to make him the NFL’s highest paid offensive lineman. But now, only a day after signing the deal, Slater is getting attention for all the wrong reasons.

After Slater’s deal was completed, NFL reporter Dov Kleiman, received backlash on July 28 after he posted something on X about Slater and his wife’s divorce, implying that the team waited to finalize the deal until the divorce was completed.

Slater’s Wife Comments on the Post

The post, which came out at around 8 p.m. Pacific Time on July 27, says that Slater recently finalized the divorce from his wife and that the new deal he signed was ‘perfect timing.’ Kleiman then tweeted a follow-up post, saying that Slater’s wife, Stassney Brown, would not see any of the money. But it did not take long for Brown to call-out Kleiman, calling his posts ‘deplorable’ and not shying away from expressing her displeasure.

“This is deplorable. I hold nothing but support for Rashawn. His contract is not about me,” Brown said via X (fka Twitter). “I think we should focus on what’s most important here, and that is his career and his success. Please stop including me in this narrative. He deserves his moment.”

The next morning, Kleiman responded to Brown and called her out on her comments, saying that he never mentioned her name in the post and claimed that she was using her comments to draw attention to herself.

“It wasn’t about you. It was about Rashawn keeping the money that he worked hard for,” Kleiman said. “I didn’t mention your name. So you decide to draw more attention to yourself? But also claiming he deserves his moment.”

Other Users Comment

Kleiman, who has been involved in a lot of controversy over the course of his career, got a lot of backlash from other users of the X platform. While Kleiman claimed that he never used Brown’s name, one user contradicted that he knowingly brought her into the conversation when he mentioned that she wouldn’t see a dime and used a picture of her in both of his posts. Another account went even further, saying that Kleiman was using the ultimate gaslighting technique.

“This is some top tier gaslighting if I’ve ever seen it,” one account said.

Whatever the situation is, there is no denying that Slater’s contract is well deserved. The 13th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft out of Northwestern, Slater has evolved into one of the league’s best offensive tackles– earning Pro Bowl trips in 2021 and 2024 and a Second-team All-Pro nod in 2021. Coming off of an 11-6 season in head coach Jim Harbaugh’s first season in charge, Slater will look to continue his role as a cornerstone piece for the franchise and help them make a deep playoff run in 2025.
