Ravens Get Terrible Injury News On $52 Million Super Bowl Champion

The Baltimore Ravens bounced back from an embarrassing Week 1 loss to the Buffalo Bills with a convincing win over the Cleveland Browns in Week 2.

In Week 3 — and possibly moving forward — they’ll be dealing with a different type of adversity.

“Ravens Pro Bowl edge rusher Kyle Van Noy is bracing to potentially miss multiple games due to a hamstring injury suffered Sunday, per source,” ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler wrote on his official X account on September 15. “Van Noy, who led the team in sacks (12.5) last year, is hoping the injury is short-term.”

Van Noy, who is in his 12th NFL season, won 2 Super Bowls with the New England Patriots following the 2016 and 2019 seasons. He is in the final season of a 2-year, $9 million contract he signed with the Ravens in March 2024 and has approximately $52 milliion in career earnings.

The Ravens have a marquee home matchup in Week 3 against the Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football.

From BYU Superstar To Lengthy NFL Career

Van Noy, 6-foot-3 and 255 pounds, starred at BYU from 2010 to 2013 and was arguably the nation’s best defensive player his final 2 seasons as he earned All-American honors and finished his career with 62 TFL, 26.0 sacks, 7 interceptions, 11 forced fumbles, 5 fumble recoveries and 4 defensive touchdowns.

The Lions selected Van Noy in the second round (No. 40 overall) of the 2014 NFL draft.

He played 3 seasons for the Lions followed by stints with the Patriots, Miami Dolphins and Los Angeles Chargers.

He landed with the Ravens on the practice squad in 2023 before having a “how’d he do that?” season with 12.5 sacks in 2024 and was named to his first career Pro Bowl.

Van Noy’s Injury Opens Door For Rookie

Van Noy’s injury creates a huge opportunity for rookie edge rusher Mike Green, a second round pick (No. 59 overall) out of Marshall in the 2025 NFL draft.

Playing behind Van Noy in the first 2 games, Green has just 3 tackles and 1 QB hit.

Projected as a first round pick, Green saw his draft stock drop drastically after teams learned he’d been accused of sexual assault twice — once in high school and again in college at the University of Virginia.

“Baltimore Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta defended selecting Marshall edge rusher Mike Green in the second round of the NFL draft Friday, saying they took him with the No. 59 pick after investigating two sexual assault allegations in his past,” ESPN’s Jamison Hensley wrote on April 26. “At the NFL combine in February, Green said that he was accused of sexual assault at Virginia, leading to his transfer to Marshall, and that he had faced another sexual assault allegation in high school. Green was never charged and insisted he did nothing wrong.”

Green, 6-foot-3 and 251 pounds, was the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year in 2024 after he led the FBS with 17.0 sacks in 13 games to go with 84 tackles, 23 TFL, 3 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery and 2 pass deflections.

“Mike just comes in and works, man,” Ravens defensive coordinator Zach Orr told Baltimore’s Fox 5 News on July 26. “He’s a smart player and hard worker … he doesn’t really say much until he’s out here on the field and has to communicate.”
