Ravens Predicted to Move On From $104 Million RB Derrick Henry

The Baltimore Ravens have seen their season go completely off the rails just 5 games into the 2025 regular season — they’ve gone from legitimate Super Bowl contenders to tied for last place in the AFC North after a 1-4 start.

That means some parts of the team could become expendable pretty soon, and according to Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox, that could be NFL All-Pro running back Derrick Henry.

The Ravens signed Henry to a 2-year, $30 million contract extension on May 14 after he finished second in the NFL with 1,921 rushing yards in 2024 and led the NFL with 16 rushing touchdowns.

“Since gashing the Buffalo Bills for 169 yards in Week 1, Henry has tallied 50 or fewer rushing yards in every game,” Knox wrote. “While benching Henry wouldn’t really solve any of Baltimore’s offensive issues, moving him ahead of the trade deadline could make a ton of sense. The 31-year-old would be more valuable on a championship-caliber roster, and the Ravens could get out from under the two-year, $30 million extension he signed during the offseason.”

Henry’s current contract runs through 2027. He will have approximately $104.4 million in career earnings when it ends.

Were the Ravens to actually put Henry up for grabs via a trade, it’s not hard to imagine a long list of suitors — and mostly contenders — would line up to make a deal.

Henry Had Epic Crash Out Earlier This Season

Henry had one of the great crash outs in recent memory during a 38-30 home loss to the Detroit Lions in Week 3 after he lost a fumble in his third consecutive game to start the season.

The fumble, which came with 8:31 left to play, was followed by an uncharacteristic, emotional outburst from Henry, who slammed his helmet and tumbled into the bench area as he appeared to be near tears.

Henry finished with 12 carries for 50 yards and 1 touchdown.

Henry also had a costly fourth quarter fumble in a season opening loss to the Buffalo Bills. That one came with 3:00 left in the fourth quarter and set up the winning score for the Bills, who rallied from a 40-25 fourth quarter deficit for a 41-40 win.

Henry One of NFL’s Greatest RBs of All Time

Henry, a 3-time NFL All-Pro, is already established as one of the great running backs of his generation and could be one of the greatest running backs of all time. He’s also the only running back to run for 2,000 yards in a single season in high school, college and the NFL.

Drafted in the second round (No. 45 overall) by the Tennessee Titans in the 2016 NFL draft out of the University of Alabama, Henry rushed for over 1,000 yards in 6 of his first 9 NFL seasons. That included becoming one of just 9 players in NFL history to rush for over 2,000 yards in a single season in 2020, when he was also named NFL Offensive Player of the Year.

While Henry is still on pace to rush for over 1,000 yards this season, he may have bottomed out in a 44-10 to the Houston Texans in Week 5 in which he had just 33 rushing yards on 15 carries.
