No matter how the Baltimore Ravens finish this season, the sting of their 1-5 start and the failings of their defense will almost certainly lead to widespread changes on that side of the ball this offseason.
That could mean some faces Ravens fans know and love going away, with ESPN’s Dan Graziano putting 2-time NFL All-Pro and 4-time Pro Bowl cornerback Marlon Humphrey on a list of high profile NFL stars who could be cut or traded in 2026.
“(Humphrey) will have one year and $19.25 million left on his contract after this season,” Graziano wrote on Friday, December 5. “None of that money is guaranteed, but $4 million of it is in a roster bonus that is due the fifth day of the 2026 league year. Presumably, the Ravens would want to decide before that date whether to extend Humphrey, move on from him or just pay him the bonus and let him play out the final year of his deal.”
While Ravens might want to look long and hard at the rest of their roster before actually parting ways with Humphrey, but the signs have been pointing to his eventual exit for several years now.
Ravens Drafted CB in First Round in 2024
Humphrey has been the type of playmaker Super Bowl defenses can build around — he’s just never been able to get over the hump like the rest of the Ravens and it appears their Super Bowl window has now closed.
Sitting at 6-7 headed into a Week 15 game at the Cincinnati Bengals, the Ravens are likely to retool their entire defense but they’ve also built their secondary with young talent that probably makes Humphrey expendable.
The biggest evidence of Humphrey becoming replaceable is the NFL draft, where the Ravens have taken secondary players in the first round in 3 of the last 4 years — all of whom will eventually need huge contracts.
In 2025, the Ravens took safety Malaki Starks at No. 27 overall out of Georgia and he already looks like he’s going to be a star. He’s playing on a 4-year, $16.57 million contract and management won’t have to think about a new contract for him until March 2028 at the earliest.
In 2024, the Ravens selected Clemson cornerback Nate Wiggins at No. 30 overall. Wiggins has looked like he can be a shutdown corner and could cash in big eventually.
The Ravens also have the game’s elite free safety in Kyle Hamilton, their first round pick (No. 14 overall) in 2022 and signed him to a 4-year, $100.4 million contract in August.
Hamilton, at 24 years old, is the oldest of those 3 players. That means Humphrey, who will turn 30 years old before next season, could be the odd man out.
Other Options for Dealing With Humphrey
Perhaps the best option for the Ravens if they want Humphrey to stay in the old is getting him to rework his contract — something along the lines of a 1-year, $10 million contract. So that’s quite a shave.
The more likely move would be to give Humphrey his outright release and let him hit the open market, where there would likely be plenty of suitors.
