Real Madrid and Brazil legend Roberto Carlos rubbishes health rumours

Roberto Carlos has spoken out from hospital about his current condition, denying rumours that he suffered a heart attack.

The legendary full-back became a global superstar thanks to his performances for Real Madrid and Brazil.

The free-kick specialist won four La Liga titles and three Champions League with the Spanish giants and the 2002 World Cup with Brazil, along with two Copa America titles.

The Brazilian first retired in 2012 after a spell with Anzhi Makhachkala and briefly returned to action with Delhi Dynamos in 2015.

Now firmly in retirement, Carlos has undergone surgery on a heart condition, but he has eased fears over the severity of his illness.

Spanish publication AS reports that a recent MRI revealed an issue with his heart which led to near-three hour surgery, but he is recovering well.

Posting on Instagram, Carlos wrote: ‘I would like to clarify recent information that has been circling.

‘I recently underwent a preventative medical procedure, planned in advance with my medical team. The procedure was successful, and I am well. I did not suffer a heart attack.

‘I am recovering well, and looking forward to returning to full fitness and resuming my professional and personal commitments soon.

‘I sincerely thank everyone for the messages of support, care, and concern. I would like to reassure everyone that there is no cause for concern.

‘My heartfelt thanks go to the entire medical team who took care of me.’

Carlos left Real Madrid for Fenerbahce in 2007, with the Turkish club sending a message to him amid ill health.
