Red Sox Get Strong Alex Bregman Message Amid Blue Jays Link

The Boston Red Sox are among the teams reportedly keen on veteran infielder Alex Bregman. Last season, Bregman hit .273 with 118 hits, 18 homers, 62 RBIs, and 64 runs scored in 114 games for the Red Sox, per StatMuse.

Moreover, it’s because of his production that teams like the Chicago Cubs, Toronto Blue Jays, and Arizona Diamondbacks are linked to the veteran, who has yet to decide on his future. Nonetheless, one young Red Sox player is making his stance on the Bregman situation clear.

On December 22, Red Sox star Roman Anthony appeared on MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM to talk about the impact Bregman had on him during his rookie season.

“I can’t even explain how much he helped me from Day 1,” Anthony said. “I came in at a time when he was hurt. For me, he was like another hitting coach. He was like another manager in a sense. That’s just the guy he is—the leader, the winner that he is. He doesn’t settle for anything short of greatness from everybody, and that’s what he expects from everybody, even from a young rookie like myself. But he helped me to such a high standard.

“It helped me out so much… I can’t say enough good things about him and the type of leader he is. Obviously, we want nothing more than for him to be back with us, but we’ll see what happens. But he definitely instilled that routine into me and in that preparation side of things, which is sometimes more important than the physical side. So I can’t say enough about him.”

Red Sox Face Challenge to Secure Alex Bregman

Nonetheless, other destinations could entice Bregman in this free agent period. Former MLB pitcher C.J. Nitkowski explained why the Blue Jays are an ideal spot for Bregman over teams like the Cubs and Tigers, should Toronto replace Bo Bichette’s bat with the veteran.

“I think Alex Bregman wants to go back to Boston,” Nitkowski said on the December 19 edition of Toronto Sports Rush. “That is clearly the top target. The Chicago Cubs and the Detroit Tigers are back in on him just like they were a year ago, but that’s a tougher sell. Where the Blue Jays have an advantage, if this is real, compared to the Tigers and the Cubs, is proving they are willing to pour resources into the team to win going forward.”

Alex Bregman Could Want a Winning Situation

Nitkowski also pointed out that Toronto could be a more appealing destination, thanks to the opportunity to capitalize on the Vladimir Guerrero Jr. window, especially compared with other potential contenders that aren’t ready to invest the money required to compete for a World Series.

“[Bregman is] on the back end of his career, and this will likely be the last big contract he signs,” Nitkowski added. “The Blue Jays are doing that right now. The Cubs are not spending like that market should, and the Tigers do not have the resources to spend at that level. If they land Alex Bregman, the odds of bringing Tarik Skubal back are probably even lower. That’s a tough sell for a player at this stage of his career.”
