Red Wings Big Trade Pitch Lands New Star Forward

The Detroit Red Wings are starting to cool off after their hot start to the season. After starting the season with a 9-4-0 record, the Red Wings have now lost each of their last three games. They have also lost six out of their last 10 games, so things are not the best for Detroit right now.

The Red Wings’ last two losses were particularly tough, however. On Nov. 7 against the New York Rangers, Detroit lost by a 4-1 final score. The Red Wings then followed up by losing to the Chicago Blackhawks by a 5-1 final score on Nov. 9.

One of the main reasons for the Red Wings’ tough stretch as of late has been their lack of scoring. Over the course of their ongoing three-game losing streak, they have scored just two goals. With this, adding another scorer could be a good idea for the Red Wings.

When looking at the current trade candidates around the NHL, Buffalo Sabres star winger Alex Tuch stands out as a potential fit for the Red Wings. Due to this, we here at Heavy Sports have a trade pitch that has the Red Wings acquiring Tuch from the Sabres in a major swap.

Alex Tuch Is Among NHL’s Top Trade Candidates

Tuch is one of the NHL’s most-talked-about trade candidates right now. The Sabres have had a disappointing start to the 2025-26 season, as they have a 5-6-4 record and are last in the Eastern Conference standings.

Tuch’s pending unrestricted free agent (UFA) status is also a reason for the trade speculation surrounding him. If Tuch does not have an extension with the Sabres nearing the deadline, he will be a big-time player to watch.

Due to this, Tuch was recently given the No. 4 spot on NHL insider Chris Johnston’s latest trade board for The Athletic.

“He’s the kind of player they’ll be looking to keep around long term, but he’s also too valuable to potentially lose for nothing, especially if they aren’t firmly in the playoff race come the trade deadline,” Johnston wrote about Tuch.

If the Sabres do end up making Tuch available, the Red Wings should seriously consider making a big push for him. The two-time 36-goal scorer would be a great addition to their top six and power play if brought in.

Why The Red Wings Could Land Tuch With This Trade Pitch

Tuch has good trade value as a big top-six forward with a bargain $4.75 million cap hit. With this, the Red Wings offering their 2026 first-round pick, their 2027 fourth-round pick, one of their top prospects in Buchelnikov, and Rasmussen could be enough to successfully acquire Tuch.

Any Tuch trade would likely need to include a first-round pick. With it, the Sabres would get the opportunity to try to land another good prospect to their system.

With Buchelnikov, the Sabres would be adding a very promising forward prospect with high skill. The 22-year-old forward is having a strong season in the KHL with HC CSKA Moscow, posting eight goals and 17 points in 25 games thus far. This is after he had 15 goals and 54 points in 65 games with HC Vityaz of the KHL last season.

With Rasmussen, the Sabres would land a 26-year-old forward who could work in their bottom six and on their penalty kill. In 14 games this season, he has recorded one goal, three points, and 12 hits.
