Ruben Amorim has hit back at Arne Slot, insisting he ‘doesn’t care’ what the Liverpool boss thinks about Manchester United’s tactics.

The Red Devils conjured up a brilliant 2-1 Premier League win over their fierce rivals at Anfield last week thanks to Harry Maguire’s late goal.

It emerged after the match that Liverpool broke Premier League rules as they went searching for an equaliser – but the Reds avoided a fine.

Slot was frustrated that United ‘had a low block and played a lot of long balls’ during the game but Amorim has no interest in what he had to say.

Speaking ahead of United’s next match against Brighton, Amorim said: ‘I don’t care what Slot is saying, what people are saying about our team.

‘I can watch the game and say we can do better, and we need to do better in the future, but sometimes you need to adapt to the game.

‘So I don’t need anyone to evaluate my team. I can evaluate my team and I am really clear that we should play better with the ball, and we are going to try to do that in this game.

‘I understand everything. I am really pleased that the team can play different games. It was an important win, but I was the first one to say we need to play better with the ball.

‘Liverpool is in the past. It is not important.’

What did Arne Slot say about Man Utd’s tactics?

Speaking in his post-match press conference after his team lost at home to United, Slot was quizzed about what he felt went wrong in the game and said: ‘The result.

‘And the fact that we went 1-0 down so early. If you play United, with so many quality players they have – [and they] brought in a few new ones this summer – and if they come to us in a low block, playing so many long balls, then the last thing you would want is going 1-0 down.

‘Because that gives them even more belief. If you would have told me we are 1-0 down against a United team that played in the style they did, and you would have told me that we would create eight, nine, 10 open chances, then I would have said to you that I don’t think that is possible.

‘But it was possible. So, the second thing that went wrong is that from all the chances we got, we only scored one goal.

‘I have said it in Holland many times and maybe I’ve said it here as well, it’s almost impossible to win a big game of football – and Liverpool v United is a big game with so many quality players on the pitch – to win it with a negative set-piece balance.

‘We conceded another one and that led to us losing the game.’
