The “Swiss Army Knife” for the New Orleans Saints, Taysom Hill, may not have racked up all the accolades and isn’t headed to the Hall of Fame, but the 35-year-old made his own NFL history on Sunday.
Hill threw his one touchdown pass of the season in Week 16 against the New York Jets, connecting with Chris Olave for 38 yards. But the quarterback/tight end/running back also contributed receiving and rushing yards. He finished the day with 42 rushing yards on 12 carries and 36 receiving yards on four catches.
The Saints (5-10) defeated the Jets (3-12) Sunday by a score of 29-6 in what could have been Hill’s final game at the Superdome. The Saints finish the season on the road and Hill is a free agent this upcoming offseason.
Taysom Hill Makes NFL History on Sunday
After Sunday’s performance, Hill now has 2,388 passing yards, 2,545 rushing yards, and 1,002 career receiving yards. With his 36 receiving yards today, Hill is now the only player with over 1,000 yards passing, rushing, and receiving in the NFL Super Bowl era.
“I think in moments like these, is just to be reflective. I think my overall feeling is one of gratitude,” Hill said postgame. “I think this organization, this city has been so good to me. All the way back to Sean (Payton), who had this unique vision of what I was able to do.
“It be easy to not give me opportunities like that, to have these unique experiences, and I really appreciate what these guys did early on.”
Taysom Hill Fights Back Tears Postgame
Hill fought back tears during his postgame remarks, reflecting on his career in New Orleans as he is a free agent at the end of the season.
“As I was driving to the stadium, you start to think about the last nine years and what it’s meant to me and my family, this city. I think for me personally, you just try to take it all in.”

Hill claims there wasn’t a concerted effort to get him touches in the final home game of the season. He said you’ll have to ask first-year head coach Kellen Moore.
“I’ve not had any conversations about any of this, but I was laughing in my head. We had the touchdown then next play he tried to get me another one and then next play he tried to call a screen to me. I was laughing in my head, oh, Kellen knows.”
Taysom Doesn’t Want to Play for Anyone But New Orleans
Hill was coy when asked if he wants to keep playing football, but admitted that he hopes it is not another team.
“I’m focused on the next two weeks and we’ll kind of tackle that as we get down the road,” he said.
“I have so much love for the city of New Orleans and the Saints fanbase. I wouldn’t want to play somewhere else, but there’s a lot of circumstances that are out of your control. I understand the nature of this business.
“I don’t know what the future holds for me, but it was a special day for me and the family.”
