San Antonio Spurs Get Positive Injury Update on De’Aaron Fox

The San Antonio Spurs have rushed out to a 5-1 start to the season. Victor Wembanyama looks like an MVP frontrunner, and Dylan Harper is playing like a Rookie of the Year.

On top of that, Stephon Castle, Devin Vassell, Keldon Johnson, Julian Champagnie, and Harrison Barnes are all high-level role players. The Spurs have managed to find success despite injuries.

Luke Kornet has missed time, and Jeremy Sochan, Lindy Waters III, Kelly Olynyk, and De’Aaron Fox are yet to play this season. With Harper out for at least a week, injuries are piling up.

Luckily, in Harper’s absence, the Spurs got an update on Fox’s situation.

San Antonio Spurs Get De’Aaron Fox Injury Update

Last season, the Spurs made a three-team trade with the Chicago Bulls and Sacramento Kings. In return for Zach Collins, Tre Jones, Sidy Cissoko, and three first-round picks, the Spurs landed Fox and Jordan McLaughlin.

Fox immediately took over as the Spurs’ second-best player behind Wembanyama, although a finger injury limited him to 17 games after the trade. This offseason, a hamstring injury has held him back.

As the Spurs prepare for a November 5th clash in Hollywood against the Los Angeles Lakers, Fox is not listed on the official injury report.

The majority of the Spurs’ injuries are listed as “game time decisions,” as are both Austin Reaves and Luka Doncic. LeBron James remains out.

Tipoff is scheduled for 10:00 PM EST with coverage on ESPN.

Fox Expected to Thrive With Victor Wembanyama

In his 17 games with the Spurs last year, Fox averaged 19.7 points and 6.8 assists. All but five of those games were without Wembanyama, and in the five games where they shared the court, Wemby didn’t know he was playing with blood clots.

On top of that, Fox was dealing with a finger injury all season long. As if that wasn’t enough adversity, he had to share the floor with Chris Paul, one of the more ball-dominant point guards in the NBA.

Finally, it seems the stage is set for the Spurs’ newest duo.

In the five games with Wembanyama, Fox posted 21.6 points and 7.8 dimes. The Spurs went 2-3, and it was clear that something was wrong with Wemby. The two haven’t shared the floor much, but they are expected to be one of the league’s best duos.

The Spurs are yet to be at full strength this season. Once they hit their stride, expect them to remain near the top of the standings. If they can weather injuries this season, Wembanyama could very soon play meaningful, postseason basketball.
