Scottie Scheffler Has 2 Words on Embarrassing Moment at Tour Championship

It is not often people confuse the name of world No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler, but the third round of the Tour Championship featured a lot of rarities. Heavy Sports has been at East Lake throughout the Tour Championship as Scheffler continues to be the main attraction for fans.

Despite Scheffler’s historic performance in 2025, the star golfer may not be on everyone’s radar. The starter announced Scheffler as “Scottie Schotler” moments before the superstar began his third round at East Lake.

Scheffler was asked if he felt “rattled” by the embarrassing moment, but the humble star did not appear too concerned.

“Gosh no,” Scheffler told reporters when asked if he was impacted by the embarrassing moment.

Scheffler admitted that he did hear the starter mispronounce his name to start the day.

“Did you hear the starter phonetically incorrectly pronounce your name?” a reporter asked Scheffler on August 23, 2025.

“Yes, I did,” Scheffler reacted.

Here’s what you need to know about Scheffler’s quest to win another Tour Championship.

Scottie Scheffler on People Mixing up His Name: ‘People Used to Call Me Xander’

It apparently is not the first time Scheffler has been confused for another name during PGA Tour events. Scheffler admitted that sometimes people confuse him with fellow golfer Xander Schauffele.

“I feel like I have for sure,” Scheffler explained to reporters when asked about having his name mixed up before. “… Yeah, people used to call me Xander. Just par for the course there.”

Scottie Scheffler on Third Round Performance at Tour Championship: ‘Felt Like Another Frustrating Day’

Scheffler has some ground to make up in order to win his second straight Tour Championship. Heading into the final round, Scheffler is four strokes back from co-leaders Tommy Fleetwood and Patrick Cantlay.

Scheffler shot an impressive 66 in the third round, but the star’s putting struggles cost him a few spots on the Tour Championship leaderboard. Despite the solid round, Scheffler admitted to being frustrated heading into Sunday.

“Felt like another frustrating day,” Scheffler admitted during his August 23, media session following the third round. “I felt like I did some things well out there. I was just a little bit off on my reads most of the day. I hit some good putts that just didn’t fall.

“Like you said, after the start I did a good job bouncing back and getting back into it. Overall I didn’t shoot myself out of the tournament, which making bogeys around this place can very easily do that. Proud of the turnaround, but man, I wish I could have gotten a little bit more out of the round.”

Tommy Fleetwood on Attempting to Score His First PGA Tour Win: ‘Make Sure I’m Telling Myself All the Right Things’

Scheffler will have to contend with a motivated Fleetwood, who is searching for his first PGA Tour win. Fleetwood has gained steam as the Tour Championship has gone on. Heading into the final round, the veteran golfer expanded on his philosophy of being his “own best friend” on the course.

“I’ve caddied for my kids, and I know what I would say to them, and I think it’s all about being very clear with what you’re doing,” Fleetwood told reporters on August 23. “Having a great attitude, having a great frame of mind, make sure I’m telling myself all the right things and just commit to those things.

“Like I just said, there’s only 30 players this week. It could be 100, 150, whatever it is tees Sunday and in contention. That’s what everybody wants.”
