An eventful week at Royal Portrush ended in triumph and glory for Scottie Scheffler, who got to celebrate an Open Championship with his wife and son in Northern Ireland.
The 29-year-old further solidified his standing as the best player in the world — and furthered his argument for the best of a generation — with a ho-hum four-shot win to capture the Claret Jug. The Champion Golfer of the Year is now just one major — the U.S. Open — away from the career grand slam.
Scheffler’s family had a front-row seat to see it all go down. His parents, Diane and Scott, were both there standing greenside when he putted in to close it out on the 72nd hole. So were his wife, Meredith, and the couple’s 1-year-old son, Bennett.
Scottie Scheffler’s Celebration With Wife, Son Led to Adorable Photos
With the entire Scheffler clan in the house, it made for an unforgettable moment for the family with some adorable photographs.

Per usual, Scheffler made sure he found Meredith almost as soon as he pulled his golf ball out of the hole. That has become a familiar site for golf fans, and Bennett (in his Sunday best Nike jumpsuit) has become a fixture as well since he got old enough to make the trips.
“Every time I’m able to win a tournament, the first person I always look for is my wife,” Scheffler told reporters after the tournament. “Where we walk off each day is usually on the right side, and I didn’t see her at first. So I was like, oh, my gosh, where’s Meredith? What happened? She’s not there.
“As I kind of circled around the green, I saw my dad standing there. I was like, OK, perfect, my family must be down there, so I saw Meredith. She’s always the first person I want to celebrate with. She knows me better than anybody. That’s my best friend. It takes a lot of work to be able to become good at this game, and I wouldn’t be able to do it without her support.”
Bennett Scheffler Steals the Show on 18th Green
A lot of that support comes in the form of looking after Bennett while Scheffler’s at work. But as golf fans saw during Scheffler’s latest celebration, father-son time begins almost immediately after walking off the green.

“Yeah, it’s very cool to have him here,” Scheffler said. “He obviously has no clue what’s going on. He just wants to spend some time with me. I hadn’t really seen him much of the day. Yeah, it’s pretty cool.”

Bennett wasn’t just there to play with the Claret Jug. He was all over the place, running around as a 14-month-does. He did, however, maybe bite off more than he could chew and needed some help from an official to get up and over one of the treacherous greenside slopes on the 18th green at Royal Portrush.
The Schefflers also owe Mike Tirico and the NBC crew a debt of gratitude. After interviewing Scheffler in his first moments as an Open champion, Tirico finished the chat by returning one of Bennett’s toy trucks to Scheffler. That handoff seemed to excite Scheffler just as much as getting the Claret Jug — and anyone with young kids could understand.
