Seahawks Call on to Pursue $111 Million Former All-Pro Lineman

Five-time Pro Bowl guard Brandon Scherff remains a free agent. As long as that’s the case, he’s likely to be linked to the Seattle Seahawks through rumors.

That happened again Saturday with Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox calling the Seahawks a “logical landing spot” for the veteran guard.

“Scherff would be a sensible addition for any team seeking help along its offensive interior,” Knox wrote. “The Seattle Seahawks were just such a team in 2024. Though they added first-round rookie Grey Zabel to the mix this offseason, they have $29.9 million in cap space and could afford to add Scherff before Week 1.”

Scherff made his most recent Pro Bowl with the then Washington Football Team in 2021. The year prior, Scherff earned a first-team All-Pro nomination.

The guard received Pro Bowl recognition with Washington two consecutive seasons from 2016-17 and then again from 2019-21.

Over his 10-year NFL career, Scherff has earned about $111.23 million.

What Brandon Scherff Could Bring to the Seahawks

Seattle had one of the weaker interior offensive lines during the 2024 season. So, it’s not surprising that pundits have connected Scherff to the Seahawks this offseason.

On June 26, ESPN’s Aaron Schatz proposed the final offseason move Seattle should make is signing Scherff.

As Knox did, Schatz cited the Seahawks adding North Dakota State’s Grey Zabel at No. 18 overall in the 2025 first round. Pundits project Zabel to start at left guard.

Scherff could then slide into the starting role at right guard.

Three years ago, Scherff was arguably the top guard in the league. Coming off a third straight Pro Bowl, the Jacksonville Jaguars signed Scherff to a three-year, $49.5 million contract. With the deal, Scherff became the highest-paid offensive guard in the league based on average annual salary.

After three seasons of no post-season recognition with the All-Pro and Pro Bowl teams, though, Scherff remains a free agent with training camps across the league about to begin.

Scherff will turn 34 in December. He has started 140 games during his NFL career. Scherff hasn’t missed a contest since 2021 with Washington.

Seahawks Interior Offensive Line Depth

Pundits have labeled Seattle as a team that could be interested in an interior offensive line upgrade because Olu Oluwatimi and Christian Haynes are set to start at center and right guard, respectively, for the Seahawks.

Seattle has five (with the potential for six) other interior offensive linemen (not counting Zabel) on the offseason roster. But those five players don’t have much NFL experience.

The other guards listed on the official Seahawks offseason roster are Sataoa Laumea, Anthony Bradford and sixth-round rookie Bryce Cabeldue. Veteran Josh Jones could also play some guard while splitting his time at guard and tackle.

Jalen Sundell and undrafted free agent Federico Maranges are two other centers who will likely compete for a backup role behind Oluwatini.

If the Seahawks signed Scherff, Seattle could move Hayes into the competition with Laumea, Bradford and Cabeldue.

According to Pro Football Focus, Scherff’s run blocking has declined, but he likely still offers an upgrade over what Seattle currently has at right guard. Based on the PFF player grades, Scherff is also still a good pass protector.
