Seahawks Have Another Change of Heart on Former Touted 1,300-Yard Playmaker

The Seattle Seahawks had a busy week of roster moves as the team prepares for the stretch run ahead of the postseason. Seattle continues to transform the team’s practice squad and also cut ties with several veterans.

It would not be a Seahawks game week without the front office making a roster move with former touted Washington Huskies running back Myles Gaskin. Seattle once again cut ties with Gaskin only to re-sign the running back one day later after the veteran cleared waivers.

The Seahawks initially cut ties with Gaskin along with wideout Brendan Rice and center Doug Kramer. Seattle signed linebacker Ja’Markis Weston as part of the moves made on December 2, 2025.

Here’s the latest on the Seahawks’ roster moves.

Seahawks RB Myles Gaskin Had 4 Straight Seasons Topping 1,200 Yards With Washington

Seattle is expected to get reinforcements as safety Julian Love and defensive tackle Jarran Reed were activated from injured reserve. Additionally, running back Velus Jones Jr. was elevated to the active roster as George Holani is on injured reserve.

The Seahawks have cut and re-signed Gaskin several times this season. Gaskin was once one of the best running backs in college football.

The playmaker had four straight seasons topping 1,2000 yards and 10 touchdowns with the Huskies. Gaskin’s best season came in 2017 with 1,380 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns.

The running back has only played in one game this season for Seattle but provides the team with depth behind Ken Walker and Zach Charbonnet. Prior to Seattle, Gaskin had stints with the Minnesota Vikings, Los Angeles Rams and Miami Dolphins.

Myles Gaskin Gives the Seahawks Added Depth at Running Back

The Dolphins selected Myles Gaskin in the seventh round of the 2019 NFL draft. Gaskin drew comparisons to another standout Washington running back Bishop Sankey.

“Durable, productive runner who could find the transition from college to pro more challenging due to his lack of size,” NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein detailed in Gaskin’s pre-draft profile. “Gaskin’s quick feet and loose hips offer early elusiveness and success on wide flowing plays, but his overall play is less explosive/elusive than his athletic traits might suggest.

“He will need to run with better decisiveness and downhill burst to become an effective member of a running back committee, but his ability to play on third downs should help his chances for some early touches.”

The Seahawks Are Expecting Julian Love & Jarran Reed to Play vs. Falcons

Seattle is likely hoping not to have to utilize Gaskin and instead continue to lean on Walker as well as Charbonnet for the team’s rushing attack. Head coach Mike Macdonald is cautiously optimistic that Reed and Love are good to go, starting against the Atlanta Falcons.

“J-Reed should be good to go, which is exciting,” Macdonald said, per Seahawks.com. “Julian is planning on playing, and we’re going to play it accordingly. We have a plan, we’ll see how the game goes, but excited to have those guys back.”

The news comes at just the right time with upcoming matchups against the Indianapolis Colts, Los Angeles Rams, Carolina Panthers and San Francisco 49ers. All four teams are in the hunt to make the NFL playoffs.
