Seahawks Land Ex-Captain as Former 16-Game Starter Joins IR Days Before Jags Game

The Seattle Seahawks made a pair of roster moves just days before the team takes on the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 6. Seattle is adding some depth to the secondary while losing a veteran offensive lineman to injury.

The Seahawks announced the signing of safety Maxen Hook, a two-time captain at Toledo. This move was made possible after Seattle placed guard Shane Lemieux on the practice squad injured reserve.

Hook is a former MAC award winner who went undrafted following a standout career at Toledo.

“Hook, who went undrafted out of Toledo, signed with the Eagles after the draft, then was waived prior to the start of the regular season,” Seahawks.com’s John Boyle wrote in an October 8, 2025, story titled, “Seahawks Sign Safey Maxen Hook To Practice Squad.”

“A three-time first-team All-MAC selection and two-time team captain. … As a senior, Hook had a career-best and team-leading 107 tackles along with two interceptions and four passes defensed.”

New Seahawks Safety Maxen Hook Went Undrafted & Had Brief Stint With the Eagles

Seattle is looking to bounce back from a heartbreaking defeat against Tampa Bay. Head into the NFL draft, NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein had a fifth-round grade on Hook.

“Four-year starter with the size, speed and production to catch the attention of NFL evaluators in the middle rounds,” Zierlein wrote in his pre-draft profile of the defender. “Hook patrols the field with a tangible urgency to fly around and make plays. He’s rangy over the top in coverage and plays with tremendous hustle to rack up tackles.

“His urgency also comes with missed run fits and occasional coverage mistakes when teams use misdirection against him. He has average pop as a tackler but has cut down on his misses. He plays the game with passion and will be an instant contributor on special teams. Hook could develop into a solid backup with the flexibility to play interchangeably at safety.”

Seahawks HC Mike Macdonald on Loss vs. Buccaneers: ‘Made a Bunch of Corrections & Guys Are on Board’

As for Lemieux, the veteran has yet to play for the Seahawks in 2025. After spending his first four NFL seasons with the New York Giants, Lemieux appeared in seven games for the New Orleans Saints, including four starts. Lemieux has made 16 starts over his NFL career.

If there was a bright spot from the Seahawks’ loss to the Buccaneers, it was the offensIVE explosion. Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald pointed to all the things that needs to change heading into the team’ showdown against a 4-1 Jaguars squad.

“Yesterday was a game where our offense and special teams had to pick up our defense and it came down to trying to get a stop towards the end or scoring late and we weren’t able to do either of those things,” Macdonald told reporters on October 6, per Seahawks.com. “So we scoured through the tape, made a bunch of made corrections and guys are on board.

“Go through, not around as we like to say around here, but what’s important is we learn from it and we go attack the heck out of this week and we come back fresh on Wednesday and all eyes straight ahead and get ready for Jacksonville.”
