It’s that fun time of the season where we know that the Seattle Seahawks are going to be in the postseason, and now, it’s just a matter of who they’ll be playing and if they’re get that desirable homefield advantage and bye. Following the Seattle Seahawks’ 38-37 “Thursday Night Football” overtime win over the Los Angeles Rams, that team is on top of the NFC West and the NFC, in general.
With just two weeks to go in the 2025-26 regular season, it’s becoming obvious which teams are going into the postseason, but what’s still up in the air is the seedings. Things could go either way, but obviously, ideally, the Seahawks will win out the rest of their regular season and be in the best spot possible going into the postseason.
It’s incredible what Seahawks second-year head coach Mike Macdonald has done with this team since getting hired in January 2024. This season, the signing of quarterback Sam Darnold from the Minnesota Vikings has also been instrumental in the team’s success. So, let’s get into the Seahawks’ playoff scenarios going into their game on Sunday, December 28, against the Carolina Panthers.
Seattle Seahawks’ Road to the Playoffs
In a feature out on Friday, December 26, for 12th Man Rising, Jonathan Eig lays out the most likely playoff opponents for Seattle.
Basically, if the Seattle Seahawks beat the Panthers and 49ers, they’ll get that top seed and a first-round bye, but if they lose either game, there will be a lot of options on who the Seahawks will come up again in the postseason, and they’ll either be in the fifth or sixth seed.
If Seattle wins those two games, they’ll get the bye and host a divisional round game against the lowest remaining seed. According to Eig, “that is most likely to be Green Bay. I give the Packers a very good chance of going on the road and defeating either Chicago or Philadelphia in the Wild Card round.”
He adds that if Green Bay loses, “Seattle almost certainly will host either Los Angeles or San Francisco in the divisional round.” He doesn’t see either of those teams losing in the Wild Card round, which makes sense. “After that, I think there is a pretty good chance that the Seahawks take on either LA or SF in the conference championship,” Eig adds.
Options if the Seattle Seahawks Go to the Wild Card Round
But, if the Seahawks go to the Wild Card round, they’ll to go to Carolina, Tampa or Philadelphia, he notes, and if they get past that round, they’ll “go to Chicago or to whichever NFC West team ends up winning the division. Then, they have virtually the same likely opponents should they advance to the conference finals. All those games would be on the road.”
So, there you have it. A complex situation, but as long as the Seahawks keep winning that’s what matters. Either way you slice it, it’s an exciting time to be following the Seattle Seahawks, and good days are ahead.
