Seahawks Tie for NFL Lead with Six Pro Bowl Selections

When you are tied for the best record in the NFL, it should be no surprise that you are also tied in the lead for the most Pro Bowl selections.

That is where the Seattle Seahawks find themselves with six players going to the Pro Bowl Games.

This is based off the initial selections, because more players will get the Pro Bowl call when some players opt out.

But either way, this type of recognition for the Seahawks really puts a light on how successful they have been this season. Additionally, Seattle’s six Pro Bowl selections are spread throughout the roster and not clustered on one side of the ball. That speaks to the Seahawks’ depth and overall balance as a team.

Seattle Seahawks Among Four Teams with Six Pro Bowlers

Quarterback Sam Darnold, wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, defensive tackle Leonard Williams, defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence, cornerback Devon Witherspoon, and wide receiver Rashid Shaheed are the six Seattle players that made the Pro Bowl.

All six of those players have made a Pro Bowl before. It is the second selection for Darnold, Smith-Njigba, and Shaheed. Williams have Witherspoon are both going to the Pro Bowl for the third time. It is the fifth Pro Bowl nod for the 33-year-old Lawrence.

Shaheed made the Pro Bowl as a kick returner, even though his official position is wide receiver. He certainly deserved to make it as a kick returner, because he already has two touchdown returns in seven games with the Seahawks.

His 58-yard punt return touchdown against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 16 was the biggest play of Seattle’s season so far.

The rest of Seahawks selected completely deserved the honor as well. Darnold is having another great season and JSN leads the NFL in receiving yards and is the favorite to win Offensive Player of the Year. On defense, Lawrence, Williams, and Witherspoon anchor a unit that ranks first in defensive DVOA.

The Baltimore Ravens, Denver Broncos, and San Francisco 49ers also have six players going to the Pro Bowl Games.

Cooper Kupp Thinks Some Seahawks Got Snubbed

It would not be a good Pro Bowl selection list if people did not debate about who got left out.

That is exactly what Seahawks wide receiver Cooper Kupp did on Tuesday.

Kupp did not advocate for himself to make the Pro Bowl, instead highlighting some of his teammates who did not make it.

And he has a point. Ernest Jones‘ five interceptions are tied for second-best in the NFL, and he also leads Seattle with 116 tackles. Jason Myers leads the league with 37 made field goals and is 100% on extra point attempts.

Myers got snubbed for Dallas Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey. In all fairness, it is hard to be too upset about Aubrey getting selected over Myers, considering his propensity to consistently make 60-yard field goals.

Those are not the only Seahawks snubbed. Many Seattle fans advocated for second-year defensive tackle Byron Murphy II to make the Pro Bowl. Murphy’s seven sacks are tied for the team lead with Williams.
