Seahawks Trade Idea Nets Them 8,000 Yard Receiver

A new potential trade target emerged on Friday when it came out that the Minnesota Vikings were looking into pursuing their former wide receiver, veteran Adam Thielen.

“Vikings have inquired about trading for Panthers WR Adam Thielen, per league sources,” Adam Schefter wrote on Frday, “With WR Jordan Addison serving a three-game suspension and Jalen Nailor dealing with a hand injury, Thielen could wind up starting opening night for the Vikings if they can complete the trade.

Indeed the Vikings do make sense as a trade destination for Thielen, given Jordan Addison’s three-game suspension, Jalen Nailor and Rondale Moore‘s collective injuries, and their broader lack of depth at the position.

But in this trade proposal, the Seattle Seahawks make a move for the 13th (!) year wideout, who could be looking to play on the third team of his career.

The Seahawks Have A Sneakily Skinny Receiving Corps

The Seahawks signed former Offensive Player of the Year, Cooper Kupp this offseason after trading DK Metcalf to the Pittsburgh Steelers for a second round pick in April’s draft, however the depth behind him and electric former first round pick, Jaxon Smith Njgba, remains thin.

Currently, fifth round rookie, Tory Horton is occupying the third receiver spot next to Copp and Smith Njigba, with veterans Marques Valdez Scantling and Jake Bobo next up on the depth chart.

Horton has impressed in preseason, but he has never played a single regular season snap. And few teams will want to rely on rookie fifth rounders to be a key portion of their starting offense, unless that rookie happens to be named Puka Nacua.

Scantling has been a competent deep-threat role player on various offenses over the past few years, but may not be up to scratch to being a starting member of the offense – especially at this point in his career.

Why A Trade For Thielen Makes Sense For The Seahawks

Thielen provides a solid, experienced pair of hands for Sam Darnold, in addition to being one of the more reliable receivers in the league over the past decade plus.

And even though he would start as WR3, in all likelihood, Kupp’s extensive injury history over the past few seasons could mean that the former Los Angeles Ram could miss significant time, making Thielen’s impending role on offense ever more important.

Thielen could be expendable after the team selected Arizona wide receiver, Tetairoa McMillan, with the 8th overall pick in this year’s draft – especially as the Panthers already had fellow first round wideout, Xavier Legette, on the roster.

If Seattle outbid Minnesota for his services, Thielen could make a lot of sense as a Seahawk.

Seattle Seahawks receive: Adam Thielen, 2027 sixth round pick.

Carolina Panthers receive: 2026 fifth round pick, 2027 seventh round pick
