Seahawks Trade Proposal Swaps Cornerbacks NFC Powerhouse

The NFL trade deadline is just three weeks away. One team that should be open to adding is the Seattle Seahawks.

One area that they could look to add to is the secondary, despite the strong play of Derion Kendrick and Josh Jobe. Riq Woolen had a tremendous rookie season in 2022 when he registered a career-high 63 tackles and six interceptions.

Since that season, he hasn’t been the same player, and at times, he doesn’t appear to be all-in for Mike Macdonald and the defensive system. One trade proposal has the Seahawks sending the 26-year-old fifth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft to another NFC contender.

Trade Proposal With Eagles Swaps Cornerbacks

With the trade deadline inching closer by the day, Bill Barnwell of ESPN proposed 13 trade offers that make sense. He proposed a deal for Seattle with the Philadelphia Eagles in what would be a swap of cornerbacks.

Barnwell has Seattle sending Woolen and a 2026 fifth-round pick to the Eagles in exchange for Kelee Ringo and a 2026 fourth-round pick. Ringo has been the subject of multiple trade rumors recently.

“(Woolen) could wear an Eagles uniform in 2025, though,” Barnwell writes. “Philly desperately needs a third cornerback to play on the outside across from Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean, and though Woolen has struggled to match what was a sterling performance as a rookie, he’s going to offer more upside than just about anybody else the Eagles can acquire at the deadline.”

Philadelphia has some secondary depth and a breakout start in Cooper DeJean, while Quinyon Mitchell has been very good as well. Woolen, who is a free agent following the season, has struggled and been frustrating at times with his inconsistent play for the Seahawks.

“The other corners on the market are going to be either similarly frustrating young prospects (Cam Taylor-Britt of the Bengals, Joshua Williams of the Chiefs) or replacement-level journeymen (Saints corner Isaac Yiadom or Commanders corner Noah Igbinoghene),” Barnwell wrote. “Woolen is a shot worth taking and a potential project for Vic Fangio over the rest of the season.”

Seahawks Acquiring Kelee Ringo Would Provide a Fresh Start

Ringo played in 34 games the last two seasons for the Eagles. He was selected in the fourth round of the 2023 Draft out of Georgia. This year, he’s played in all six games with 17 tackles, including three in their last game against the New York Giants. His contract has another year of team control for 2026. He would be a project for the Seahawks, but one worth taking a chance on.

“The Seahawks would get some draft capital and their own developmental prospect in Ringo, who hasn’t been able to regularly crack the starting lineup in Philadelphia,” wrote Barnwell. “Ringo has one extra year of team control, and he would slot in as a reserve cornerback when star Devon Witherspoon is healthy. The Seahawks would also lock in some draft capital, which wouldn’t be guaranteed if they let Woolen leave in free agency. They might see this move as addition by subtraction, frankly.”

Aside from Ringo, Seattle would get some much-needed draft capital for the future. There’s no doubt there are going to be plenty of rumors over the next couple of weeks. Expect the Seahawks to do their due diligence and keep all options open.
