Serhou Guirassy would be ‘open’ to the prospect of leaving Borussia Dortmund for a European giant like Chelsea next summer, according to reports in Germany.

The 29-year-old has netted 47 times in 68 appearances for Dortmund to further establish himself as one of the most lethal goalscorers in German football over the last 18 months.

An impressive return of 21 goals in 30 games earned Guirassy a place in the official Bundesliga Team of the Season for a second year running last term.

He also finished as the joint-top scorer in the Champions League, despite BVB exiting the tournament at the quarter-final stage.

And while Dortmund have endured an inconsistent start to the 2025/26 campaign under Niko Kovac, Guirassy has still managed to deliver consistently in front of goal, netting nine times in all competitions.

However, speculation has been mounting that this could be Guirassy’s final season at Westfalenstadion, with top clubs across Europe keeping close tabs on the forward’s situation.

German newspaper BILD claim that Chelsea are among the teams for whom Guirassy’s €50million (£44m) release clause will be valid next summer. The other clubs on that list are believed to be Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Barcelona.

But Chelsea are said to have stolen a march on their rivals by opening initial talks with Guirassy’s camp to inquire over his future.

The report suggests the Club World Cup winners could ‘easily’ better the striker’s current €10million-a-year (£8.7m-a-year) wages should they decide to step up their pursuit.

With Guirassy turning 30 next March, it’s claimed the attacker ‘dreams’ of securing himself one last lucrative contract while he is still in the peak years of his career – and he is ‘open’ to the prospect of leaving BVB at the end of the season.

For now, though, Guirassy remains fully focussed on matters at Dortmund, to the extent that he worked with a personal trainer during the recent international break instead of joining up with the Guinea national team.

The ex-Stuttgart and Rennes man has privately ruled out the idea of upping sticks in the January transfer window. BVB would not be prepared to let their star striker leave this winter either.

But the idea of Guirassy staying with Dortmund beyond the summer is deemed ‘highly unlikely’ at this point.

According to BILD, there are ‘two future scenarios’ available to Guirassy when the campaign comes to an end: secure a move to a ‘European powerhouse’ or accept an ‘astronomical’ offer from a team in the Saudi Pro League.

Dortmund have identified Hoffenheim’s Fisnik Asllani as their primary transfer target up front should they give up hope of keeping hold of Guirassy.

Guirassy’s current contract with Dortmund runs through to June 2028.

The Guinea international hit the headlines for the wrong reasons on Tuesday night as he refused to shake hands with Kovac after being substituted in Dortmund’s German Cup defeat to Bayer Leverkusen.

But Guirassy was quick to apologise for his reaction and Kovac insisted there was no bad blood between the two of them following Dortmund’s round-of-16 elimination.

‘We discussed it like adults right after the game. He then came to me on his own and apologised to me personally, as well as to the team,’ the Dortmund head coach told reporters.

‘He knows that he didn’t react properly there. That is what matters to me.

In the heat of the moment and with the adrenaline, such things can happen. But it shouldn’t.

‘There’s a shared belief in the team that something like this isn’t constructive – no matter who it is.’

Kovac said he would continue to ‘support’ Guirassy and backed the attacker to put the episode behind him to ‘score the goals Dortmund needs’ again.

‘He depends on his team-mates, on the players around him who can feed him the ball,’ the Croatian added.

‘If we manage together to get him back into the situations where he is most dangerous, namely in the box, then he will also score the goals we need.

‘He has already scored many goals, but we are hoping for even more. I stand by my statement: I will support him.

‘Every team needs a top striker in their ranks. BVB certainly have one in him, which is why we want to continue working with him.’
