The Golden State Warriors have been Stephen Curry’s team for the past decade.
But after a tumultuous offseason, Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. and head coach Steve Kerr decided one Curry wasn’t enough. In turn, Golden State signed Seth Curry to a one-year minimum deal for the upcoming season.
The younger brother hasn’t seen as much success as the older, but both have been some of the most successful three-point shooters in NBA history. Speaking on 95.7 The Game, Curry said he and his brother were always open to playing together, and they finally made it work this season.
“Steph was always open to the opportunity of me playing with him and the Warriors,” he said. “But he knew and the front office knew that I was trying to make my own mark in the league. Build my own path.”
Curry played last year on the Charlotte Hornets, averaging 6.5 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 0.9 assists in 15.6 minutes per game on 45.6% from three, a higher percentage than his brother’s 39.7% from deep in 2024-25.
Curry On Joining His Brother
The brothers have hinted at a team-up in the past, but no concrete plans were ever made. While Seth was on the Hornets, the former team of their father, Dell Curry, some thought the two would eventually play together in the town where they grew up. But now, the younger brother joins the dynasty that his brother built in the Bay Area.
Curry said after the poor last few seasons in Charlotte, he was excited about landing on a team with title-hopes, regardless of whether his brother is there or not.
“It’s a great opportunity for me to get back to some winning ways,” he said. “A veteran group here trying to win with their eyes on the ultimate prize, trying to get back to the Finals and win a championship.”
Both Steph and Seth rank near the top on the NBA’s all-time three-point percentage leaders. While the younger brother hasn’t seen as much success, both personally and team-wise, his career 43.3% from three remains valuable for any team he is on.
“I think people that watch me play give me the credit,” Curry said in response to a question about the recognition, or lack thereof, he receives. “I’ve been playing just as good as ever, and in my limited minutes last year, I think I shot the ball pretty well from deep.”
Curry won’t be playing in the type of on-ball role compared to his brother, but will be a valuable catch-and-shoot player for the Warriors this season. He’ll likely come off the bench in a limited role, but as seen by the numbers, he is impactful when on the court.
Steve Kerr On His Team’s New Sibling Duo
Curry was part of a group of players who signed with Golden State after the team negotiated a deal with Jonathan Kuminga. While Al Horford, De’Anthony Melton, and Gary Payton were previously predicted to land in the Bay Area for most of the summer, Curry was a late addition to the list.
Regardless, Kerr spoke on his excitement of having the Curry brothers together, and what it means for the team this season.
“It’s great seeing Seth out there today,” Kerr said after a Warriors’ practice. “Having them both on the team, what that’s going to mean for their family and their friendship. It just feels right, it feels like the timing is right for Seth and Steph to finally be on the same team.”
“Seth is a really good player in his own right, one of the best shooters in the league. He’s going to help us win some games this year. The family reunion is great, but it’s also great to have an accomplished player and shooter on our team.”
Offensively, Curry will be important in how Golden State plans to play next season. While Buddy Hield caught fire at times near the end of last year, they’ve lacked multiple consistent shooters off the bench in recent seasons. Monte Poole of NBC Sports Bay Area believes Curry will be a solid addition, even if that only applies to the offensive end of the floor.
“Smart move for quality depth,” he wrote. “Golden State is fortunate that an affordable, low-maintenance individual was available. It doesn’t hurt that he’s the baby brother of the team’s superstar.”
