Shedeur Sanders Clears Air on Injury, Banning Deion Sanders From Browns Camp

The Cleveland Browns were a beacon of quarterback news on Monday, though the majority of it still centered around fifth-round rookie Shedeur Sanders.

Sanders landed as the QB4 on the team’s first unofficial depth chart of the preseason. However, before that news broke on the afternoon of August 4, the 23-year-old signal-caller addressed the two major elephants in the Cleveland quarterback room, at least where he is concerned.

The first dealt with his shoulder injury, which Sanders self-reported to team doctors.

“It was just adjusting to starting and stopping. Honestly, that’s all it truly is,” Sanders explained. “Sometimes you’re going hot, then you’ll wait for a second, then you’ll get cold, then get back hot, then get cold. And, you know, my arm and body wasn’t used to that. So it’s just an adjustment, like within the body, within my arm.”

Sanders noted that he heard his father Deion Sanders‘ voice in his head when deciding to self-report the injury that sidelined him over the weekend and got some rumors swirling in the aftermath.

“I always hear my dad’s voice in my mind all the time, because it’s always ‘bone of blood,’ you know — his motto and his slang with everything,” Sanders continued. “So of course, I was definitely hearing his voice in the back of my head. But at the end of the day, I want to be productive. I want to give you guys the best work, and I want to be at my best at all times.”

The second hot topic of discussion was the absence of Sanders’ father from training camp to this point.

He explained that his dad’s protracted absence from the proceedings comes by both request and design.

I don’t want him coming to see me right now because I want to get to where I want to go, then for him to see me. I don’t want him to come and see me … get a couple reps and, you know, he’s cheering like a good dad. Like, nah. You can’t be proud of me right now. I got to get to where I’m going, and I know it’s a lot I got to do to get there.

Everything that I’m doing is just like focus on this time, and I don’t want no distractions because … we know how everybody would take it and take away from the team, just from him being my own dad showing up. So, you know, it’s a gift and a curse at the same time.

Shedeur Sanders Most Interested in Reps, as He Begins Preseason Slate as QB4

Although Sanders spoke to media members before learning he was officially QB4 entering the team’s first preseason game on Friday against the Carolina Panthers, it’s reasonable he had a sense of that before the press conference began.

Presuming that context, Sanders told reporters that what he’s most concerned with right now are reps under center, and he considers all of them to have significant import.

“I think every rep I get in general is valuable,” Sanders said. “We definitely taking things up a notch, I would say, with everything. So, every rep — anytime I step on the field, I take it like it could be my last. Because you don’t know.”
