Sinner and Djokovic Cruise to Round 4: ATP Wimbledon Day 6 Recap & Highlights

Catch up on all of the latest ATP Wimbledon action with Heavy’s day six recap & highlights.

Saturday’s ATP action at SW19 was headlined by some impressive play by both World No. 1 Jannik Sinner and seven-time Wimbledon winner Novak Djokovic.

Both players cruised to straight-set wins on Centre Court, with Sinner, who is still in pursuit of his first Wimbledon title, defeating Pedro Martinez 6-1, 6-3, 6-1.

Throughout the match, Sinner played with the same consistency he’s shown over the past year, outplaying Martinez in nearly every statistical category as the World No. 52 battled a shoulder injury throughout the match.

With his win on Saturday, the 23-year-old now punches his ticket to a Round of 16 meeting with Grigor Dimitrov on Sunday following the Bulgarian’s straight-set win (6-3, 6-4, 7-6) over Sebastian Ofner today.

Additionally, on Centre Court, Novak Djokovic secured his 100th win at Wimbledon as he cruised to a straight-set victory over fellow Serbian Miomir Kecmanović.

Throughout the match, Djokovic showcased an elite level of play, bagel-ing Kecmanović in the second set over just 23 minutes.

Following his win, the all-time great spoke about what advancing to the fourth round means at this stage of his career, as seen below.

With his win, Djokovic now advances to the Round of 16, where he will collide with No. 11-seeded Alex de Minaur, who defeated August Holmgren in straight sets (6-4, 7-6, 6-3) on Court 2.

Miami Open Winner Jakub Menšík Upset on Court 12 in Straight Sets

While many of today’s top-seeds like Novak Djokovic, Jannik Sinner, and Ben Shelton emerged victorious from their matches on Saturday, Miami Open winner Jakub Menšík was upset by No. 22-seeded Flavio Cobolli on Court 12 (6-2, 6-4, 6-2).

While Cobolli struggled earlier in the season, losing seven straight matches throughout the first quarter of the year, he’s now advanced to the fourth round of a Grand Slam for the first time in his career.

While to members of the press during his post-match press conference, Cobolli spoke openly about how he’s been able to turn his season around.

He was quoted by Tennis Grandstand as saying:

“I think I played one of the best matches ever of my life, I think almost perfect.”

“I started the year very bad, and one big victory like in Bucharest or in Hamburg made me (feel) something in my stomach. It changed a lot. I try to be better also outside the court. I try to do the right things to be better in the court and outside the court. I think it’s changing something, and also with the team I work a little bit better.”

With his win, Cobolli now punches his ticket to a fourth-round meeting against Marin Čilić.
