Sixers’ Tyrese Maxey Sends Message to Fans on Social Media

The Philadelphia 76ers fan base has a right to feel aggrieved over how the 2024-25 season played out. Nick Nurse’s team nosedived toward the bottom of the Eastern Conference, due to injury issues sweeping through the Sixers’ roster.

As such, Daryl Morey entered the 2025 offseason under significant pressure to strengthen the rotation. After all, the Sixers’ second unit needed some additional depth, and the frontcourt an overhaul. However, outside of drafting VJ Edgecombe, Sixers fans haven’t had much to celebrate.

Joel Embiid is still recovering from surgery. And, Paul George recently underwent a procedure that could derail the start of his season. So, Sixers fans have had very little to be positive about when talking online.

However, it would appear Tyrese Maxey has been seeing all the noise and isn’t impressed with the lack of optimism for the 2025-26 campaign. On Friday, July 18, the All-Star guard took to X (formerly Twitter) to let Sixers fans know that he’s seeing all of the narratives currently floating around online.

“Yall talking yall mess on this app this summer! UNDERSTOOD🫡!,” Maxey posted.

Maxey suited up in 52 games last season, averaging 26.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 6.1 assists per game. He shot 43.7% from the field and 33.7% from deep. The Sixers will need him healthy and at his best if the franchise is going to bounce back from the humbling they received last season.

Sixers Receive Warning About Tyrese Maxey

According to ESPN’s Kendrick Perkins, speaking via a recent episode of ESPN’s First Take, Maxey could grow tired of the Sixers’ current downswing and the lack of organizational direction throughout the franchise.

“They’re on the clock when it comes down to Tyrese Maxey, and when I say on the clock,” Perkins said. “…Because if they keep trending in this direction of no culture and no stability, guess what? Tyrese Maxey is gonna want out of Philadelphia, and we know who his agent is, it’s Rich Paul. And Rich Paul doesn’t give a damn. I’m telling you this – this is something I know.”

Maxey is a clear-cut star of the future. He will be next in line to lead the Sixers once Embiid chooses to step aside. Therefore, Morey and the Sixers front office must do whatever it takes to keep the guard with the franchise long-term.

Sixers’ Paul George Recently Had Surgery

To add to Perkins’ point, the Sixers could start the upcoming season without George, who suffered an injury during a recent workout. That same injury led him to undergo surgery, which means he now faces a battle against time to be ready for the start of the season.

In a July 15 appearance on ESPN’s NBA Today, NBA Insider Shams Charania shed some light on why George opted to undergo surgery, despite being weeks into the offseason.

“The doctors felt like this would be an injury that would linger,” Charania said. “For a player that was never healthy all last year, Paul George’s season ended rehabbing from injections on groin and knee injuries. He had a finger injury during the season as well, and now he starts rehab for this knee injury and he will be re-evaluated at the start of this upcoming training camp, but I am told both sides will be cautious with him, want to see Paul George return to that full form Paul George they have not seen in Philadelphia.”

Regardless of whether George is cleared to play at the start of the 25-26 campaign, Nurse must find a way to empower Maxey. He has all the talent needed to lead the line. Of course, George being in the rotation will help. But sooner or late, the Sixers must make it clear, that moving forward, this is Maxey’s team.
