Stars Send Mikko Rantanen Message After Micah Parsons Trade

The Dallas Stars have brought a lot of success to the city in the last few seasons. They have made three straight Western Conference Finals appearances. And they have one of the best rosters in the NHL. After the Micah Parsons trade, though, they may have become a source of comfort.

The Dallas Cowboys traded superstar pass rusher Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers on Thursday. In return, Dallas received two first-round picks and interior defensive lineman Kenny Clark. Parsons signed a four-year contract with Green Bay as part of this trade.

This deal has ended a long standoff between the Cowboys and Parsons this offseason. The superstar pass rusher wanted a new contract. However, Dallas seemed reluctant to sign their fomer first-round pick to a long-term contract.

Now, Parsons is headed to Green Bay. He is the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL. And he is the second superstar-level talent to leave the city of Dallas through trade in 2025. It’s been quite the rough time for Dallas sports fans, to say the least.

However, they still have superstars in the city. And the Stars took the chance to remind fans of this fact when the news broke on Thursday.

Mikko Rantanen Was Recently Traded To Stars

Richard Rodriguez/Getty ImagesMikko Rantanen joined the Dallas Stars at the 2025 NHL Trade Deadline.

The Stars entered the 2024-25 season with Rantanen as a division rival. More than this, he had served as a thorn in their side come time for the playoffs. However, things changed drastically during the 2024-25 season.

Rantanen was traded in mid-January, but not to Dallas. He was originally sent to the Carolina Hurricanes in a three-team deal involving the Colorado Avalanche and Chicago Blackhawks. Carolina also ended up with veteran Taylor Hall in the deal.

Questions immediately arose over his long-term future in Carolina. By the 2025 NHL Trade Deadline, it became clear the Hurricanes were not comfortable potentially losing him for nothing in NHL Free Agency. As a result, they traded him to Dallas in exchange for Logan Stankoven and two first-round picks.

Rantanen immediately signed an eight-year contract with the Stars. And he went on to make a major impact. He scored 18 points in 20 regular-season games with Dallas. In the postseason, he scored nine goals and 22 points in 18 games. This includes a Game 7 hat trick in the first round to eliminate the Avalanche.

Unfortunately, his performance could not get Dallas a Stanley Cup. They were eliminated in the Western Conference Finals by the Edmonton Oilers for the second year running. However, Rantanen forms one of the best offenses in the league with the Stars. And the Stanley Cup window is wide open as a result.

Micah Parsons Trade Brings Familiar Pain

As mentioned, Parsons is not the only superstar-level talent to be traded by a Dallas team. The Dallas Mavericks sent Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers back in February. Doncic is a top-tier talent in the NBA, and had led the Mavs to the NBA Final in 2024.

Both Doncic and Parsons are in their prime, as well. Parsons is currently 26 years old. Doncic is also 26. However, he was 25 at the time of his trade out West. In fact, he was traded less than a month before he turned 26.

Dallas sports fans have experienced pain through some of these transactions in 2025. In saying this, Rantanen is a superstar-level talent worth checking out. With an eight-year contract and a full no-movement clause, he is not going anywhere anytime soon, either.
