Steph Curry Breaks Silence On Warriors’ Giannis Trade Rumors, Draymond Future

The Golden State Warriors tried and failed to make a Giannis Antetokounmpo trade at the February 2026 deadline. Still, according to ESPN, the franchise is expected to go big-game hunting once again, and while Steph Curry is likely the one player safe from trade rumors, Draymond Green could very well be sent out to add another superstar.

In a recent article about the declining play and uncertain future of Green with the Warriors, team insider Anthony Slater revealed quotes from head coach Steve Kerr, Curry, and Green himself about his potential involvement in a trade should Golden State attempt to target Antetokounmpo again this summer.

Green is aging, and while he still has a decently large contract, despite what he’s done for the Warriors in their dynastic run, he could very well be on the chopping block for another superstar to pair with Curry, whether he’s fine with that reality or not.

Steph Curry And Draymond Green On Warriors’ Giannis Antetokounmpo Trade Rumors

GettyThe Warriors’ struggles without Stephen Curry raise a difficult question: how much does Draymond Green’s impact depend on him?

Firstly, as Golden State enters the final chapter of the ‘Steph Curry era‘ Slater reported that the expectation is the team will go after a big name this summer.

“Dunleavy and Lacob are expected to again explore large-scale moves in the summer, team sources said, which would put nearly everything on the table,” he wrote.

In the same article, both Green and Curry addressed the idea of the team making a deal for Antetokounmpo, and what that would mean for the duo.

Green was mentioned in trade rumors for the Milwaukee Bucks star, and admitted that he came to grips with the fact that his being moved could be a reality.

“I understand this business probably [as] good as any player,” Green said. “I understand like, yo, this is Giannis Antetokounmpo. They not just about to trade me for a bag of peanuts. It would’ve almost been a point of pride.”

Green added that he still wouldn’t want to play for the Bucks, and regardless of if a move would happen or not, it would still be a major blow.

Curry also commented on the potential of the Warriors making a trade for Antetokounmpo.

“I didn’t spend time on the conversation,” Curry said. “But I guess Giannis is the only one that would’ve made sense. And I think, to his point, any team would’ve looked at that. But we never got there. I guess I’m the only one that is off the board, out of the conversation, but you have to be naïve to not understand the business side of it.”

Green’s future is still up in the air, and while he remains impactful, his play has dropped, and as both he and Curry continue to age, desperation in the Warriors’ front office has only grown to take a risk and potentially trade him soon.

Draymond Green Rumors, Potential Lakers Move

While Golden State was heavily linked to an Antetokounmpo trade at the deadline, Green also made comments hinting at a potential move to Los Angeles to team up with his friend and rival, LeBron James, on the Lakers.

“I’ve always wanted to [play with him],” Green said back in early February. “I’ve always wanted the opportunity. Just to experience it, to see how he thinks, to see, all right, what I could do to help him and his thinking. Or what can I learn and pick up about what he’s thinking?”

Now, at least according to Slater, a potential Lakers move is still not out of the question.

“Green could opt out and test unrestricted free agency again this summer. League sources said a reroute to the Los Angeles teams were on his radar when the idea of a possible trade surfaced,” the insider added.

Green has a player option this offseason for $27.6 million. In the past, he has maintained his loyalty to the Bay Area, but as his name is already floating in trade rumors for a superstar like Antetokounmpo, the idea of him moving on can’t be ruled out.

Still, at least according to Slater, the expectation from other league insiders is that Green will stay with the Warriors for as long as he’s welcomed.

“But the opt-out to test unrestricted free agency isn’t a route team or league sources are predicting,” he wrote. “The expectation is that Green will either opt in — keeping him as a bulky $27.6 million expiring deal that the Warriors could either hold or move — or work out a multiyear extension starting at a lower number, signaling a greater likelihood he finishes his career with the Warriors.”

Green is averaging 8.6 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 5.4 assists on 41.8% shooting in 62 games this season. As Kerr has admitted in the past, he isn’t the same player from a few years ago, and as the days go on, until he decides on his contract or the Warriors get good news on a blockbuster trade, Green’s future is still up in the air, regardless of what Curry or the other top decision makers of the team say.
