ESPN personality Stephen A Smith made some bold claims comparing Zion Williamson’s eating habits to a drug addiction. Smith ranted on First Take about Williamson doing an interview on ESPN the previous day with Malika Andrews. Willamson talked about dealing with the inner struggles of seeing people mock his weight on television when he missed a full season due to an injury.
Smith delivered the blunt criticism towards Williamson for his eating habits:
“Nothing was made up. The information about Zion came from inside of the organization. It came from people even closer than that to Zion Williamson. People who called up and encouraged us to get his ass because of some of the things that he was doing.
You got people that are alcoholics, you got people that are drug addicts and stuff like that. What was Zion’s problem? Food! Food addict! The joke was that everybody in New Orleans that cooked knew about Zion Williamson and he knew them. They were on a first name basis.”
Williamson was called out by Smith for having drastic problems with eating that he deserves blame for. Smith felt disgusted that Williamson talked about it hurting his feelings and that the young star needed to take accountability for the situation.
Stephen A Feuded With Pelicans Social Media
Drama escalated on Tuesday after Smith’s early morning comments against Williamson caught fire on social media. The official New Orleans Pelicans Twitter/X page clapped back at Smith by showing a footage of him playing basketball poorly on camera years ago. Fans gave it strong engagement to further upset Smith to make it more personal.
Stephen A retorted with the following on his Twitter/X page:
“Pulling out stuff from a decade, two decades, three decades ago, ???? No problem. See y’all tomorrow on @FirstTake. Remember one thing: YOU ASKED FOR THiS!!!!”
The Pelicans’ page responded with a brutal reply of a Max Kellerman gif to get over 21,000 likes. Smith reportedly didn’t like looking foolish when Kellerman debated him and played a role in ESPN removing Max from the co-host role. Things are certainly getting ugly between Smith and the Pelicans over his insults towards Williamson.
Stephen A Made It Too Personal Vs Zion
Most fans are siding with Williamson and the Pelicans against Smith since he made things more personal with his insults. The general consensus saw most understanding of what Zion meant and praised him for being so honest in an interview.
Fans got a deeper insight into some of the struggles Williamson had and how hard it was to miss a full season with a broken foot. The weight issues became a punch line during the darkest time of his career, and he’s worked hard to get in much better shape.
Unfortunately, the lack of results for the Pelicans causes Smith and other controversial pundits to continue making fun of him. Zion has been ridiculed by Smith for years, but public perception is turning to see more side with him. Smith was accused of being a bully on social media for constantly bringing this up to mock Williamson.
