The Golden State Warriors suffered another narrow loss on Thursday, and coach Steve Kerr expressed frustration with referees. Kerr couldn’t believe how the Warriors lost to the Phoenix Suns due to a questionable foul call with 0.4 seconds left in the game.
Speaking in his postgame press conference, Kerr was in disbelief that the referees called a loose-ball foul on Moses Moody, allowing Jordan Goodwin to give the Suns a 99-98 win.
“It’s hard to believe that the game was decided on that call, you know, on an air ball that hits the side of the backboard, and guys behind the bench told me that Moses got all ball. Everybody’s tangled up… That, to me, it better be a foul to decide the game on a play like that. So, disappointing that we didn’t get to go to overtime because I thought our guys executed and did a great job in the last few minutes of giving ourselves a chance,” Kerr said, via The Athletic.
The Warriors have now lost three in a row, dropping to 13-15 for the season. They get a rematch against the Suns on Saturday.
Steph Curry Sees Different Reason for Warriors’ Loss
While coach Steve Kerr focused on the NBA officials, Steph Curry wasn’t particularly happy with how the Warriors continued to not take care of the basketball and failed to secure offensive rebounds when needed.
“Same story. Turnovers. Offensive rebounds. And especially on the road, it’s hard to give teams momentum. You give them belief, they start hitting shots,” Curry said, via NBC Sports Bay Area.
The two-time NBA MVP also didn’t have a good shooting night, finishing with 15 points, nine rebounds and seven assists. He went 3-for-13 from the field and knocked down two 3-point shots.
Curry has cooled down after scoring 39 and 48 points in his first two games since returning from a quad contusion and muscle strain. Jimmy Butler did try to carry Golden State with 31 points, three rebounds and three assists.
Brandin Podziemski added 18 points off the bench, while Jonathan Kuminga scored just two points in 10 minutes in his first game after three consecutive DNPs.
Kerr Not Concerned About Joe Lacob’s Leaked Email
A concerned Warriors fan recently sent an email to majority team owner Joe Lacob and expressed his frustration with their performance. Lacob replied and shared the sentiment, calling things complicated and defending Jimmy Butler from people saying that he’s the problem in Golden State.
Speaking to reporters after Wednesday’s practice, Steve Kerr was not worried about Lacob’s leaked email. Kerr remained confident that ownership still trusts him as the Warriors’ coach.
“Joe supports me 100%, I support him. We have a great connection, and we’ve had so much continuity here and our stable environment in our organization is one of our strengths,” Kerr said, via ESPN’s Anthony Slater.
Kerr is in the final year of his current contract and could leave the Warriors at the end of the season. He has been with the franchise since 2014, helping Golden State win four NBA championships.
