Sunderland have made a transfer deadline day move for a former Chelsea player to help replace Marc Guiu after he was recalled to Stamford Bridge.

At the start of August, Guiu was loaned to the Stadium of Light with Chelsea hoping the striker would get regular game time and continue his development.

The 19-year-old has been a late sub in Sunderland’s last two Premier League games and scored on his first start for the club as they were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Huddersfield.

However, just 26 days after he joined the Black Cats, Guiu has been recalled from his loan after Liam Delap suffered a nasty hamstring injury in Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Fulham on Saturday.

The Blues had initially called back Nicolas Jackson who was on the verge of joining Bayern Munich, but he refused to return to London and his move to the German champions is now going ahead.

Sunderland, who have impressively won two of their opening three games since returning to the Premier League, have scrambled to find a forward to replace Guiu and will sign Brian Brobbey.

The 23-year-old, who has scored 56 goals in 163 appearances for Ajax, is to join in a deal worth up to £21.6million.

But Sunderland are not done with the Dutch giants just yet, as they were in talks to sign Bertrand Traore on Sunday night before calling off the transfer.

But with time running out, Sky Sports now report that they have decided to go for the winger after all and will buy the Burkina Faso international for just £2.5m

Traore previously spent three years on the books of Chelsea, though he only made 16 appearances, spending time on loan at Vitesse and Ajax.

He also played for Aston Villa from 2020 to 2024 before returning to Ajax last season, scoring 10 goals and making eight assists in 49 games.
