Two-time Olympic gold medalist Suni Lee finally set the record straight about her relationship with New York Knicks star wing OG Anunoby.
“There’s nothing there,” Lee told Mirror U.S. Sports. “We’re just friends. I fully support all of them, and I support the Knicks.”
As slick as the Knicks star is on defense, he couldn’t score against the Olympic star as Lee gracefully bent and twisted to finally put the dating rumors to bed.
Anunoby just got friendzoned.
The dating rumors began when Lee’s courtside photo with Anunoby smiling like he was giggling went viral.
“Honestly, it just started off as a joke, and I feel like social media kind of just, like, took it further than that,” Lee explained. “But yeah, we’re just friends, and I’m really good friends with a bunch of the guys on the Knicks team, like [Karl-Anthony Towns], and then also I’m really close to [Towns’ partner Jordyn Woods] as well, so it’s cool to see them doing their thing. Honestly, I just enjoy watching basketball, which is why I went to most of the games.”
Fans began to tease Anunoby with the Olympic star, especially after the Knicks star exploded for 32 points in a 112-98 win over the Phoenix Suns in April, with Lee watching courtside.
“OG Anunoby spotted Suni Lee in the crowd and started moving like 6’7″ Paolo Banchero! 😤,” NBA Memes posted on X.
Anunoby’s teammate, Josh Hart, ribbed him during an episode of their podcast “Roommates Show” a few days after that 32-point explosion.
“We need Suni or Anne Hathaway every game during this playoff run,” Hart said at the time when asked about Anunoby’s performance with Lee watching courtside.
Why Suni Lee Suddenly Became a Knicks Fan?
Lee, who has won two Olympic gold medals in gymnastics for Team USA, made it clear why she started following the Knicks games.
“I met Jordyn and KAT when I was in Minnesota, and when they were in Minnesota as well,” said Lee, who grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota. “And then when I moved to New York, he got traded, so it was really nice to see some familiar faces in New York and just keep that friendship.”
That’s the real reason why Lee was frequently spotted at the Knicks’ home games at Madison Square Garden this season. And not because of Anunoby.
Sorry, OG-Suni love team fans!
Lee was previously romantically linked to USC Trojans cornerback Jaylin Smith last year. On the other hand, Anunoby, despite being an NBA player, has maintained his personal life private.
Brunson, Hart React to Mike Brown Hiring
The Knicks enter next season with a new head coach, with Mike Brown succeeding Tom Thibodeau despite guiding the franchise to their first Eastern Conference Finals trip in 25 years.
Brown, a two-time NBA Coach of the Year like Thibodeau, faces the pressure of improving Thibodeau’s high bar for the team.
Knicks stars Jalen Brunson and Hart recently shared their thoughts about Brown.
“I never had a relationship with him, but he always said kind words as an opposing coach. Always shook his hand, said what’s up, gave him a head nod,” Brunson said of Brown on “The Roommates Show” on July 17. “He’s really animated, he wants the best for his team, he wants to push his team in any way, shape, he can. So I’m excited for this and I’m excited to see where he can take us. It should be fun.
“Just getting to know him, know his background. He’s had a great journey to be where he’s at now. I have a lot of respect for guys who work hard, and I feel like he’s worked very hard to be in his position that he’s in.”
For his part, Hart admires Brown for being part of championship teams. Brown won four NBA rings — one with the San Antonio Spurs in 2003 and three with the Golden State Warriors as an assistant coach. He also coached LeBron James to his first finals appearance with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2007.
“Obviously, he’s been a part of some great organizations,” Hart added. “[He is] someone who I think will work well with the personality and personnel that we have already. It’s going to be great.”
