Super Bowl Winning Teammate Sends Powerful Message to Herbert

The Los Angeles Chargers appear to be a team rejuvenated, and no one is exuding more positive energy than offensive lineman Mekhi Becton. During a recent mic’d up segment from Chargers training camp, Becton delivered a bold, heartfelt, and expletive-laced message of affirmation to quarterback Justin Herbert.

Chargers’ Mekhi Becton Delivers Strong Message to Justin Herbert

“You’re amazing bro,” Becton said. “I don’t give a f*** what you say. Keep telling me no all you want. I’m gonna keep calling you amazing. How about that? And make sure you tell yourself that every f****** morning when you look in the mirror: I’m f***ing Justin Herbert and I’m amazing.”

It was the type of quote that instantly made waves across social media, not just for its humor, but because it showcased the camaraderie and chemistry building among the Chargers’ newest addition.

This isn’t the first time Herbert has been on the receiving end of gushing praise. Head coach Jim Harbaugh has been extremely vocal about his admiration for Herbert since arriving in Los Angeles, saying, “There’s not one gene in his body I wouldn’t, like, immediately trade [for].” Even going as far as to say, “If you don’t like — you don’t love — Justin Herbert, there’s something wrong with you.”

But hearing this kind of emotional support from a new teammate, especially one tasked with protecting him, speaks volumes.

For Becton, who is fresh off a Super Bowl victory with the Philadelphia Eagles, the culture in L.A. already seems like the perfect fit. While many questioned whether the former first-round pick could regain his form after a rocky start with the New York Jets, Becton appears locked in and motivated in his new home. And judging by the raw passion in his message, Becton is fully invested in his new quarterback and the Chargers’ mission going forward.

Becton and Joe Alt: Potential to Be Among the NFL’s Top OL Duos

Beyond his inspiring words, Becton is also generating excitement with what he can bring on the field. He’s currently projected to start at right guard next to Joe Alt. With Becton at guard and Alt at right tackle, Los Angeles may have one of the most physically dominant and promising duos in the entire NFL.

Alt, standing at 6’8″ and 322 pounds, was widely regarded as one of the best offensive line prospects this past decade. And he’s lived up to the hype so far. His technique, athleticism, and football IQ have earned him a 77.6 overall PFF grade (2oth out of 140 qualified tackles), and only allowed a 3.6% pressure rate as a rookie.

Pairing him with Becton, who brings a rare blend of size (6’7″, 363 lbs), strength, and athleticism, could give the Chargers a mauling tandem capable of neutralizing an entire side of the field. If the two can stay healthy and build chemistry, they have the potential to be one of the best guard-tackle pairings in the league.

For a team that has struggled with consistency on the offensive line in recent years, this pairing could be a game-changer, especially for Herbert, who has faced more than his fair share of pressure. And with a quarterback being reminded every morning that he’s “f***ing Justin Herbert,” this team’s confidence will only continue to grow.
