Teams Reportedly Lining Up Offers to Bucks for Giannis Antetokounmpo

The Milwaukee Bucks are in a position they never wanted to find themselves. This summer, they had to deal with trade rumors involving Giannis Antetokounmpo, although they refuted that they ever thought about trading him.

Antetokounmpo is now meeting with his agent to discuss his future. He will be working with his agent and the team to determine if he is going to ask out. Of course, this happened before he suffered a non-contact calf injury against the Pistons.

Teams are now starting to get into meetings and are getting offers together. According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, teams have wasted no time trying to figure out what assets they would send the Bucks in an Antetokounmpo trade.

Teams Are Meeting About Trading for Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo

While speaking on Get Up, Windhorst talked about how teams are approaching this Antetokounmpo news.

“I talked to other teams yesterday that did immediately schedule meetings to talk about whether they would make an offer.”

Teams likely started getting into meetings once it was revealed that Antetokounmpo was considering how to change his future. While the Knicks have been reportedly named as a destination that Antetokounmpo would sign off on, he will likely consider other teams, as well.

Antetokounmpo has just one year of guaranteed money left on his contract. That means that he holds a lot of power over where he could end up being traded, if he decides that he wants out. Teams will not offer up a ton of assets if he won’t re-sign with them.

The Bucks are going to take the offer with the most assets attached to it. If Antetokounmpo wants out, they immediately transition into a rebuild. Of course, the Bucks are going to need first-round picks in return. Right now, the Bucks don’t have their own first-round pick until 2031.

Teams Will Fight Each Other For Giannis Antetokounmpo

It’s unclear how much time Antetokounmpo will miss with his calf strain. The Bucks have said that he has avoided an Achilles injury. If he had an Achilles injury, teams likely would have steered clear of making an offer for him.

With it just being a calf injury, teams are going to be calling Milwaukee from now until the trade deadline until a trade is made, or Antetokounmpo decides he doesn’t want to be traded. Any team that is contending for a title will be making a call to Milwaukee, save Oklahoma City.

The Knicks are the favorite, but several teams will be throwing their hats in the ring to land Antetokounmpo. Teams are chasing the Thunder in both conferences. Anyone behind them in the standings, and not in the lottery, will likely have a meeting about making an offer.

Antetokounmpo is the biggest prize to possibly come on the trade market in the middle of the season in the last decade. He’s a former MVP and Finals MVP who is in the middle of his prime.
