Terry Bradshaw Blasts Cowboys Trade Deadline Moves During Bye Week

Terry Bradshaw has never been one to mince words, and he had a strong opinion of the Dallas Cowboys‘ active trade-deadline shopping spree.

The FOX NFL Sunday analyst took aim at the Cowboys’ dealings after they parted with multiple picks to acquire defensive help, in Quinnen Williams and Logan Wilson.

The Cowboys traded a first-round pick, a second-round pick plus 2023 first-round pick Mazi Smith to the New York Jets for Williams, one of the best interior defensive linemen in the NFL, and parted with a seventh-rounder to get Wilson from the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Cowboys (3-5-1) are 2.5 games behind the Chicago Bears for the final NFC playoff spot and will take on the Las Vegas Raiders (2-7) on Monday Night Football at Allegiant Stadium in Week 11.

Terry Bradshaw: ‘I Wouldn’t Have Done’ What The Cowboys Did At The Trade Deadline

Bradshaw was a quarterback for four Super Bowl-champion teams and has handed the Lombardi Trophy to the winning team in each of the Super Bowls that FOX has broadcast since taking over the NFL in 1994.

So even though he hasn’t run a team directly, he knows enough to be skeptical about Jerry Jones’ wheeling and dealing — especially with enhanced draft capital earned from the Micah Parsons-to-the-Green Bay Packers trade in late August.

“I would not have done that,” Bradshaw said on the pregame show Sunday. “They’re not going to win the Super Bowl. They’ve got those draft choices. I would’ve saved the No. 1.”

Bradshaw noted Williams’ ability to rush the passer, since he is an elite defender at both defending the pass and the run. Plus, the Cowboys rank 31st in yards-against per game (397.4) and 29th against the pass (254.4) and are 21st in the league in sacks (20).

Still, he did not like the decision to deal the first-round selection, even though the Cowboys will have Williams under contract for two more seasons.

“I know they’ve got pass rushing now,” Bradshaw said. “But I would not have done that.”

Quinnen Williams Is Not Having A Great Year Rushing The Passer

Maybe Williams will find his ability to rush the passer, especially while playing for former Jets D-line coach Aaron Whitecotton, who has the same title with the Cowboys this year.

But Williams has not had a great season getting after the passer. He has just one sack, seven pressures and three quarterback hits in eight games, which are on pace for what would be by far the worst marks of his seven-year NFL career.

Plus, according to ESPN, Williams is just 17th among NFL defensive linemen in pass-rush win rate (10%). He has just 11 pass-rush wins in 111 attempts for the Jets this year.

Yet, Williams has been his usual dominant self in run defense, since he does have three forced fumbles and the second-best run-stop win rate (47%), per ESPN.

But Williams is only behind Solomon Thomas of the Cowboys in D-tackle win rate (48%), even though the Cowboys rank 28th in the NFL in run defense (143.0 yards-against per game) with Thomas and Clark patrolling the interior.
