Texans Add $69 Million Super Bowl Champion in Trade Aftermath

The Houston Texans have made a significant addition to their roster, both in potential implications and in the stature of the player, with the return of Pro Bowler and veteran offensive lineman Trent Brown to the 53-man roster.

Brown is in his first season with the Texans and was part of their offseason overhaul of the offensive line. He was cut at the end of the preseason and joined the practice squad.

Now, Brown returns to full status in the wake of the Texans’ recent trade.

Trent Brown to Texans’ 53-Man Roster Before Ravens Game

Brown was a seventh-round pick (No. 244 overall) in the 2015 draft by the San Francisco 49ers, where Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans was a defensive quality control assistant. He has also played for the New England Patriots and the Las Vegas Raiders.

Brown has earned $69.5 million in his career. He won a Super Bowl with the Patriots in 2018 and initially signed a one-year, $2.3 million contract with the Texans this past offseason.

His return to the 53-man roster is not exactly a surprise.

“Texans are signing veteran offensive tackle Trent Brown from their practice squad to their active roster, per his agent Drew Rosenhaus,” ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported in a post on X on October 3.

“Figured this was going to happen,” the Houston Chronicle’s Jonathan M. Alexander posted in reaction. “Texans add depth to their OT room.”

Brown has started 96 of 103 career games, and he has experience at both tackle spots.

Cam Robinson Trade Underscores Texans’ Improvement

GettyCam Robinson #74 of the Minnesota Vikings sits on the bench during the NFC Wild Card Playoff game against the Los Angeles Rams.

Notably, the move comes after the Texans made progress up front, and they traded former intended starter Cam Robinson to the Cleveland Browns.

The Texans’ current group includes tackles Aireontae Ersery and Tytus Howard.

#Texans offensive line pressure rate improved to 36.4 percent on dropbacks per @NextGenStats against #Titans ranking 15th in #NFL,” KPRC 2’s Aaron Wilson posted on X on October 3.

Robinson lost his job to Ersery, the No. 48 pick of the 2025 draft, when he suffered an injury that sidelined him during the offseason.

They have also rotated Laken Tomlinson and Juice Scruggs at left guard.

That the Texans have seen improvement despite starting a rookie on quarterback C.J. Stroud’s blindside and still being unsettled at left guard is encouraging. They will need to be better against opponents who are not winless like the Tennessee Titans are.

Texans Get Excellent News on Injury Front

GettyHouston Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans looks on before a game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Whether or not Brown suits up on Sunday for Ryans and the Texans against the Baltimore Ravens remains unclear. However, the Texans did get several encouraging updates about their roster and the Ravens’ heading into the contest.

Most notably for the Texans, they will have cornerback Derek Stingley, defensive end Will Anderson, and wide receiver Nico Collins, all of whom were on the injury report during the week.

Anderson is off the Texans’ report entirely heading into the Week 5 tilt against the Ravens.

The Ravens’ injuries include MVP QB Lamar Jackson, All-Pro defensive tackle Nnamdi Madubuike, and Pro Bowlers Kyle Hamilton, Marlon Humphrey, and Roquan Smith, who are out. It is a good opportunity for the Texans, regardless of Brown’s status for the contest.
