Texans Issue Telling Message About Nico Collins After Comments

The Houston Texans missed Nico Collins on the field during his one-game absence due to a concussion in Week 8 against the San Francisco 49ers, and they were happy to have him back in Week 10 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

They still notched a big win over the 49ers, but have already been without WR2 Tank Dell all season.

Collins drew plenty of attention for his performance.

Nico Collins Draws Fitting Message From Texans

Collins saw a career-high 15 targets against the Jaguars, turning them into seven receptions for a season-high 136 yards.

“Mr. Get It Done [checkmark emoji],” the Texans posted on X on November 11.

Collins, 26, was the No. 89 overall pick of the 2021 draft by the Texans. He has 40 receptions, 550 yards, and 3 touchdowns this season. His showing against the Jaguars was a strong course correction on what has been his least productive season on a per-game basis.

Collins is signed through 2027 on a three-year, $72.7 million contract, so getting him going will remain a priority.

He also turned heads with a one-handed grab for a two-point conversion.

“No one’s talking about that catch,” Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans told reporters during his day-after press conference, praising the team’s ability to overcome the deficit and finish the game. “That was a sick catch.”

Nico Collins Shows Off Strong Rapport With Davis Mills

Collins would not have had the day he did were it not for backup QB and fellow 2021 draftee Davis Mills delivering the ball to him in Stroud’s stead for the Texans. Mills praised Collins postgame, acknowledging him as a “security blanket.”

“It’s a lot of fun. Nico’s a playmaker. I think he’s a pretty much a mismatch against everyone they put on the other side. I think a lot of defenses are starting to get him into a lot of cloud coverage, double coverage over top of him, and they find ways to take him out of the game,” Mills told reporters on November 9.

“Anytime they don’t, we’re looking to find a way to get him the ball. He’s grown a lot since 2021 when we were rookies, and I just wish the best for him, and continue to light up the league.”

Collins was one of two, what offensive coordinator Nick Caley called, “warheads” for the Texans.

Christian Kirk Draws Praise From Texans

With Dell out, the Texans hoped offseason trade acquisition Christian Kirk would step in as WR2 to complement Collins, but he was beset by injuries to begin the campaign, and then again during.

Kirk was mic’d up during the win over the Jaguars in Week 10. He could be heard congratulating Collins on the TD.

“Good s***!” Kirk told Collins.

Kirk, who turns 29 on November 18, had one reception for 3 yards on 3 targets in the contest. He also drew a 23-yard pass interference call in the fourth quarter. It was on a drive that ultimately ended in a touchdown.

Kirk could also be heard encouraging and keeping Collins and his other Texans teammates engaged throughout the win over the Jaguars in the highlight reel.
