Texans Receive Unfortunate Update on Rookie Draft Pick After Colts Game

The Houston Texans notched a significant victory in Week 13, defeating the Indianapolis Colts, but it came at a high cost for one player in particular. Texans rookie Jaylen Reed suffered an arm injury during the contest.

Reed was playing in his seventh game for the Texans this season.

There have not been many updates provided, but the tone of Reed’s message suggests he will miss some time and potentially a substantial amount.

Texans Lose S Jaylen Reed to Arm Injury

Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans was not asked and did not provide any updates on Reed, who was making his first start but exited during the second quarter and did not return.

Reed took to social media, sharing a heartfelt message and an image of himself in a cast.

“Sometimes you tend to ask God Why Me? But when your faith is bigger than anything in this world you don’t question anything… I know my journey is going to be a great one. I won’t panic, worry, or stress about anything as long as my faith is with GOD. I’m God’s Child and i know I’m destined for greatness. I got everything out the mud to get here & that won’t stop for nothing. The chosen one not the selected one. I got hurt two times in one year as rookie while still going 6th round,” Reed posted on Instagram on November 30.

“After all of that I’m still beating the odds & got my first NFL Start today at Safety. It’s tuff mentally & it gets hard sometimes but adversity is something we all have to overcome to get to the Highest. Through everything that’s going on I believe in your plan lord and I won’t ever stop believing.”

Reed, the No. 187 overall pick of the 2025 draft, shared another post, setting the Meek Mill song “How Far We Came,” reiterating his point about being injured multiple times this season. Reed said that “It’s all God’s Plan,” and closed with the hashtag “#Free23.”

“How would you respond?” Reed said in the second post. “Adversity brings blessings at the other end I wouldn’t trade it back for nothing..” Reed posted.

“Head up! Chin Up we attacking this s*** like a champ.”

Texans Avoid Disaster With Team Captain

Reed’s injury is unfortunate, but the Texans did emerge from another close injury call, specifically regarding linebacker and team captain Azeez Al-Shaair.

Al-Shaair injured himself diving to make a tackle on Colts running back Jonathan Taylor.

He remained on the ground for a short while before trainers escorted him to the Texans’ sideline and into the blue medical tent. The Texans later announced that Al-Shaair was undergoing an evaluation for a concussion.

The Texans notably got C.J. Stroud back for this contest after a three-game concussion-related absence.

The Colts scored on that series.

Al-Shaair returned to action on the Texans’ next defensive possession and finished out the contest. He has navigated injuries and other reasons that have kept him off the field during his seven-year NFL career.

The Texans are not out of the woods yet. Concussion symptoms can show up after the fact, leaving Al-Shaair’s status, as well as clarity from the Texans on Reed, up in the air at this point.
