Texans’ Rookie Draft Pick Raises Eyebrows With Cryptic Message

Houston Texans rookie running back Woody Marks has taken over the timeshare with Nick Chubb in recent weeks. With Chubb inactive for Week 15, Marks found himself on the lesser end of a committee with Jawhar Jordan, and he seemingly spoke out.

Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans made it clear why after the win over the Arizona Cardinals.

Still, Marks’ apparent reaction drew attention as the Texans were still fresh off their ninth win of the season.

Marks posted “Just don’t understand [facepalm emoji]” to his Instagram stories after the game, drawing attention, with Kalshi Sports’ Nick Schwager posting “Oh no,” while sharing the rookie’s message.

The ambiguity of the message left the meaning open to interpretation.

However, Marks also spoke about his and Jordan’s conversions, predicting the latter would break a long run.

“Great game. Great game. That big run. We talked about it all week; he was gonna cut back for 50. He was like he ain’t had the pads on in a minute. He got tired. We seen his legs flimsy, but he had a great game,” Marks told reporters in the Texans’ locker room after the victory.

“Just stepping up in the moment. Just going out there and doing what he’s been doing the whole week, doing what he’s doing the whole season. We saw it in the offseason, training camp, OTAs. He’s a great player, fast, too.”

Marks also noted that he was available in an “emergency” and was “good to go.”

“I was coming back in, but they kind of just held me off,” Marks said, echoing Ryans’ sentiments that it was maintenance amid strong showings from others.

Ryans was non-committal about Jordan’s role in Week 16, when the Texans will face the host the Las Vegas Raiders. The Texans elevated Jordan for the Cardinals game, and they can do so two more times.

After that, the Texans would need to sign Jordan to their active roster or find another option.

Marks, the No. 116 overall pick of the 2025 draft, finished the win with 30 yards on seven carries, adding another 8 yards on one reception.

Woody Marks Saved Offense From Disaster

Marks raised eyebrows in a good way during the game, salvaging a botched snap from center Jake Andrews to quarterback C.J. Stroud on a third-and-goal during the first quarter, taking it for a touchdown that put the Texans up 17-0 over the Cardinals.

“Sometimes the ball has to bounce your way a little bit there,” Ryans said postgame. “A little miscue there, with Jake and C.J. And Woody, very heads-up play to be able to just get on the ball, press forward, and get in the end zone. Not how you draw it up. But sometimes when things are going your way, you need some plays like that to happen. And so, I’m happy we were able to get on the ball, most importantly.”

Stroud was also grateful.

“I probably said gun in the huddle or something,” Stroud told reporters during his postgame press conference. “I went under center, and I should have been in the gun. And then, the ball snapped, and Jake still thought I was … in the gun. So, I put that on me. I got to be able to communicate, but at least we got in the zone.”

Marks said the ball came right to him, and he just hit the hole that he was supposed to on the play for the score.
