Texans Shuffle RBs, Add Former Eagles Draft Pick in Late Roster Shake-Up

The Houston Texans’ decision to activate tight end Harrison Bryant from injured reserve to the active roster leaked early.

However, that was just the first of several roster moves the team made before taking on the Arizona Cardinals in Week 15. The Texans also shuffled in Jawhar Jordan and K’Von Wallace from the practice squad.

They created room by moving on from another player, too.

Texans Elevate Jawhar Jordan From Practice Squad to Game-Day Roster

The Texans announced via the team’s official website on December 13 that they “elevated the following players via standard practice squad elevation,” naming Jordan and Wallace.

Jordan will be making his regular-season debut for the Texans in his second season with the club. The Texans selected Jordan in the sixth-round with the No. 205 overall pick of the 2024 out of Syracuse (three seasons) and then Louisville (two seasons).

Jordan has never so much as logged a snap during the regular season in his career.

He rushed for 88 yards on 24 carries during the preseason, though. Jordan failed to catch his lone target during the exhibition slate, which came during the final outing.

However, he is a dual-threat, rushing for 1,128 yards and 13 touchdowns on 181 attempts and another 246 yards and 1 TD on 21 receptions. That could make him a fine complement to Wood Marks and Nick Chubb.

Chubb and Marks picked up injuries in Week 14, which could create an opportunity for Jordan.

The Texans cobbled together their running game this season, with Joe Mixon on the Reserve Non-Football Injury (NFI) list and Dameon Pierce now with the Kansas City Chiefs.

K’Von Wallace Set to Make Texans Debut

Wallace signed with the Texans in November as they navigated injuries to their secondary, some of which remain factors in Week 15.

Originally a fourth-round draft pick, he was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles with the No. 127 overall pick in 2020. Wallace, 28, has played in 71 games, starting 19 of them, during his career, including suiting up for the Cardinals, Seattle Seahawks, and Tennessee Titans.

He has not played this season with the Texans.

Wallace has also spent time with the Minnesota Vikings and the New York Giants during his five-plus-season career.

Texans Waive Cody Schrader

While they elevated Jordan for game day, they parted ways with another running back, Cody Schrader. Unfortunately for Schrader, the decision, not on Jordan or Wallace, but on Bryant, cost him.

The Texans claimed Schrader off waivers from the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The move reunited Schrader with Texans offensive coordinator Nick Caley, who was an assistant with the Los Angeles Rams during the tailback’s time with that organization.

With Bryant returning and Jordan an option to supplement Chubb and Marks–both of whom practiced in some capacity during the week of preparation–the Texans no longer needed Schrader.

Schrader could return to the Texans’ practice squad, assuming he clears waivers.

Texans Make Final Decision on Super Bowl Champion

Rounding out a busy day of roster activity, the Texans decided to hold off on adding wide receiver Justin Watson back to the active roster.

He is one of many players who have landed on injured reserve for the Texans this season.

“Houston #Texans Injury Report Update for Week 15 vs. the Arizona Cardinals,” Houston Texans PR posted on X on December 13. “WR Justin Watson (calf) was not activated off the Reserve/Injured list and has been ruled out for Sunday’s game.”

Watson, a three-time Super Bowl champion (Chiefs twice, Tampa Bay Buccaneers once), has a 3-30-0 line in two games played for the Texans this season.

Like Jordan and Wallace, and Schrader was, Watson adds depth for the Texans when healthy.
