The 2025 campaign hasn’t exactly gone the Texas Rangers‘ way. After winning the 2023 World Series, the Rangers missed the playoffs entirely in 2024, and with a 63-66 record heading into play on Friday, it looks like the postseason won’t be in their future once again. Making matters even worse, the team received a brutal injury update regarding one of their outfielders, Evan Carter.
In 2023, Carter burst onto the scene with Texas, helping them win their most recent title. Since then, though, he’s struggled to stay healthy, playing in just 108 total games over the past two seasons. And according to manager Bruce Bochy, Carter’s 2025 season has already come to an end thanks to a wrist injury he recently suffered.
Rangers Lose Evan Carter for Rest of 2025 Campaign
Carter was one of the top prospects in baseball prior to his arrival in 2023, and he quickly proved his worth to the Rangers. In just 23 regular season games, he hit .306 with five home runs and 12 RBIs before hitting .300 with one home run and six RBIs in the playoffs for Texas. Considering he was just 20 years old at the time, it seemed like a star had been born.
Things haven’t gone Carter’s way since then, though. He played in just 45 games last season thanks to a back injury, and he began the 2025 campaign at Triple-A. While he eventually found his way back to the majors and generally held his own, hitting .247 with five home runs and 25 RBIs, it’s a far cry from what Carter looked capable of achieving back in 2023.
On Thursday, Carter left the Rangers’ 6-4 loss at the hands of the Kansas City Royals early with a wrist injury. According to Bochy, the Rangers’ medical team discovered a fracture in Carter’s wrist, and with just over a month left in the season, he doesn’t think the talented young outfielder will return to the field this year.
“They did find a fracture there, that’s a pretty big hit,” Bochy said on “105.3 The Fan.” “We’ll get him back, we’ll just stay positive on this end as far as his health, because it’s been a tough road for him. I feel for the kid. This is a freak injury.”
Rangers Hoping Evan Carter Can Figure Things Out in 2026

Not much has gone right for the Rangers this season, with Carter’s injury being the latest blow they have had to endure. Considering how a playoff run looks unlikely for Texas at this point, though, it’s better for Carter to get himself fully healthy and work on making a strong return to the team in 2026.
With Carter out, and Adolis Garcia and Sam Haggerty both on the injured list as well, the Rangers are going to have to piece things together in their outfield for the rest of the season. Joc Pederson could slide into the outfield, and Josh Smith could move off of third base if more help is needed. It’s certainly not an ideal situation, but Texas is going to have to figure things out soon, as they will be kicking off a three-game series against the Cleveland Guardians on Friday night.
