Former 2nd overall pick Ndamukong Suh knows a thing or two about the Chicago Bears. In his 13-year NFL career, Suh suited up against the Bears 14 times, more than any other opponent, and at one point, he was arguably public enemy number one in the Windy City after nearly killing former Bears quarterback Jay Cutler not once, not twice, but three times.
Ndamukong Suh also knows a thing or two about the Detroit Lions, having played for Chicago’s NFC North foe for the first five seasons of his career. That gives Suh a very unique and informed perspective on the Ben Johnson hire, and it makes his take on the 2025 Chicago Bears one worth taking a long hard look at.
“I think the Bears are going to be silent killers. They’re going to create a lot of havoc,” Suh said during a recent appearance on the Up & Adams Show.
Suh reiterated that he believes it will be his former team that comes away with the NFC North crown, three-peating as division champions for the first time since 1954, but he’s undeniably intrigued by the Ben Johnson-Caleb Williams pairing, and sees the Bears offense rounding into shape by the end of the season.
“Ultimately, I think that coach and the general team is going to rally and find a way to be competitive no matter what,” Suh added. “I think Caleb and that offense are going to find a groove late in the season, and they’re going to be a team to reckon with.”
How Quickly Can Bears Offense Come Together?
The issue with Suh’s logic — and I hesitate to disagree with the man at all, because just think about what he did to Jay Cutler — is that Chicago’s schedule doesn’t afford a whole lot of runway for the Bears to figure things out. Once mid-October arrives, the Bears have to run a gauntlet on par with the toughest in the NFL, with road trips to Baltimore, Cincinnati, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and four more divisional games.
That’s a slate scary enough to send shivers down your spine.
That leaves the Bears with very little wiggle room in the first six or seven weeks of the season. By the time Week 8 arrives — at the Ravens — the Bears will likely need to be at least 4-2 to feel good about their chances of staying competitive in the NFC playoff race.
That is unless Ben Johnson, Caleb Williams and co. can hit the ground running on September 8th when the Minnesota Vikings visit Soldier Field for the first Monday Night Football game of the 2025 season.
Based on where the Bears offense was at just a few weeks ago, it sounds like things are coming along quite well. The first team offense looked incredibly sharp against the Buffalo Bills, scoring on a 93-yard touchdown drive on their first possession of the game, and after a couple of iffy series in the 1st quarter against the Kansas City Chiefs, Williams led the Bears to back-to-back scoring drives before wrapping up the preseason on a reasonably high note.
The live bullets the Bears offense will face against Brian Flores’ Vikings defense will come a lot faster and look a lot different than they did during the preseason, and perhaps it goes without saying, but the pressure will only be amplified when the lights are bright on Monday night. But if Ndamukong Suh is correct, maybe none of that will matter.
