It has been a complete turnover around for the Indianapolis Colts this season.
There were claims of the team potentially firing head coach Shane Steichen. Some were questioning the signing of Daniel Jones to become the starting quarterback of the team. The offensive line when two of the teams’ starters left in free agency and more question marks on the team.
But after Week 13 of the 2025 NFL season, the organization seems to be treading in the right direction. Indy currently has one of the best records in the league and are on track to make the playoffs for the first time in the 2020 season. The Colts are still in the fight to win the AFC South despite losing three of the last four games, which would be their first division title since the 2024 season.
While the regular season still has five more weeks to go, Indianapolis can already start planning on what players they would like to at least keep heading into 2026.
Colts Receiving Threat Predicted To Be Top Free Agent

One of the key pieces for the Indianapolis Colts offense this season has been wide receiver Alec Pierce, who currently leads the teams with 689 receiving yards.
The WR is in the final year of his rookie contract and has yet to extend with the organization, leaving the future of one of the Colts most productive players in limbo.
Sports Illustrated ranked all the 50 best free agents after the 2025-26 NFL season, with Pierce coming in as the fifth overall best and second best receiver in the market.
“The versatile 6′ 3” Pierce had shown flashes of his upside in his first three seasons, but he had too many quiet performances, never producing more than 41 receptions in a season. He’s now set up to break the bank because he’s finally found his footing and is on track to set career highs in many categories,”Gilberto Manzano wrote for SI. “Pierce… is a dangerous downfield playmaker, averaging more than 20 yards per reception in each of the past two seasons. The 2022 second-round pick quickly found chemistry with Jones.”
Pierce has recorded four seasons of 500-plus receiving yards since being drafted in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Will Alec Pierce Be Colts Priority?
GettyColts QB Daniel Jones
One of the Indianapolis Colts biggest concerns the last few seasons was a viable option at quarterback to help the team succeed, with Daniel Jones being that option.
The big concern with wanting to retain Alec Pierce is the cap space, with Indy only having around $47.6 million for the 2026 offseason.
Pro Football Focus’ Bradley Locker believes the the wide receiver could sign a contract with an average annual value of $22 million on teams that are needy for a number one option at wide receiver.
While having Pierce for a few more years will be beneficial for the Colts, the team will like prioritize Jones in the offseason. The quarterback is currently on a one-year, $14 million deal and could more than likely double his salary in the next free agency.
If the Colts are able to do some magic to be able to retain both players, it could set the offense for the years to come.
