Thunder’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Passes Wilt Chamberlain On Historic List

Ho hum, another scoring milestone reached for Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

The reigning NBA MVP and scoring champion posted 20 or more points for the 93rd consecutive game on Sunday, November 30 in the Oklahoma City Thunder’s 123-115 win over the Portland Trail Blazers. He passed Wilt Chamberlain for the second-longest such streak in NBA history.

Gilgeous-Alexander nearly lost his remarkable streak, as he had only 16 points with five minutes remaining in the game. But the 2025 NBA Finals MVP delivered in the clutch, scoring 10 points in the final five minutes to close out the pesky Trail Blazers, who are the only team to beat Oklahoma City (20-1) this season. He finished the game with 26 points, four rebounds and five assists.

Sunday’s performance was a full-circle one for Gilgeous-Alexander. His streak (postseason games not included) dates back to November 1, 2024, when he dropped 30 points in a 137-114 win over Portland.

Gilgeous-Alexander has once again been a superstar for a team that looks poised to win back-to-back NBA titles. He’s averaging 32.5 points per game this same, just a tick below the career-high 32.7 he averaged in 2024-25. If Gilgeous-Alexander continues scoring at his current pace, he will break the all-time record for consecutive 20-point games later this season.

The All-Time List For Consecutive 20-Point Games

The player who has that record? Wilt Chamberlain.

That’s right, “Wilt the Stilt” owns two of the three longest 20-point game streaks in NBA history. His 92-game streak occurred from 1963-1964, and his record streak of 126 games spanned three seasons from 1961-1963 (including his famous 100-point game on March 2, 1962).

Gilgeous-Alexander’s name is now beside some of the greatest players of all time. Here is a list of the top-five longest 20-point game streaks in NBA history, courtesy of ESPN

126 – Wilt Chamberlain, 1961-63

93 – Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, 2024-present

92 – Wilt Chamberlain, 1963-64

79 – Oscar Robertson 1963-64

72 – Kevin Durant, 2015-16

72 – Michael Jordan, 1987-88

Gilgeous-Alexander can surpass Chamberlain if he has another 34 consecutive 20-point games. The earliest he could accomplish this is Thursday, February 12 against the Milwaukee Bucks. If he sits out two games over the next couple of months, Gilgeous-Alexander could break the all-time record in his home nation of Canada on Tuesday, February 24th against the Toronto Raptors.

How Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Got Here

Gilgeous-Alexander has become the most consistent scorer in the NBA over a period of six years. He was acquired by the Thunder in a blockbuster deal with the Los Angeles Clippers in the summer of 2019 that also sent Paul George west and five first-round picks to Oklahoma City.

The point guard out of Kentucky steadily increased his scoring per game from his second NBA season (2019-2020) to his fourth (2022-23), in which he was named an All-Star for the first time and averaged 31.4 points per game.

Gilgeous-Alexander took a slight dip in 2023-24, averaging 30.1 points per game, but rebounded in 2024-25 to set a new high-water mark and lead the NBA in scoring at 32.7 points per game. This season, he is second in scoring behind only Luka Doncic (35.3 points per game) of the Los Angeles Lakers.
