Aside from an epic collapse in the American League Central towards the end of the season, the Detroit Tigers had a fairly successful season. However, now that MLB’s offseason is here, it’s time to start thinking about how the Tigers can improve and get over the hump and compete for an AL Pennant once again.
It is expected that Detroit will be an active team in MLB’s free agency, as they may want to consider bringing in a player or two to solidify the outfield. If Detroit’s front office is unable to work out a contract with a corner (specifically right) outfielder, heading to the trade market may also be an option. As reported by Jon Morosi of MLB Network, the Los Angeles Angels are expected to be shopping both Jo Adell and Taylor Ward.

Tigers-Angels Trade Idea Sends Jo Adell to Detroit
In a recent report by Jon Morosi, the Angels are expected to listen to offers on both Jo Adell and Taylor Ward.
In this Tigers-Angels trade idea, it’s Detroit that pulls off a blockbuster deal to acquire Jo Adell.
GettyZach McKinstry celebrates his seventh inning solo home run with Riley Greene while playing the Tampa Bay Rays at Comerica Park on July 07, 2025.
Jo Adell enjoyed a true breakout campaign in 2025. In 152 games, he hit 37 home runs (fourth in AL), drove in 98 runs, and posted an OPS+ of 111. Adell struggled over the first handful of MLB seasons in his young career, but he seemed to find his footing this year as a true power threat. It was Adell’s first team posting an OPS+ over 100 (league average). With the Angels looking to rebuild after another disappointing 72-90 season and a new manager in Kurt Suzuki, offloading Adell and Ward makes sense because of the prospect capital Los Angeles could receive.
Adell played a mix of both center field and right field in 2025, but the Detroit Tigers have a specific need in right field. Â The Tigers have two All-Stars in Riley Greene and Javy Baez patrolling left and center field, but right field is still a question mark. Wenceel Perez could be the focal point of this deal, and Parker Meadows has had trouble staying on the field.

What Would Detroit Have to Give up To Acquire Jo Adell?
As noted, Wenceel Perez would have to be the focal point of this deal. Detroit could afford to move off Perez and also add in a top-10 prospect like Thayron Liranzo to make this deal work.
Wenceel Perez hit .244 in 2025 with 13 home runs and 43 RBIs.
Adding another outfielder should be at the top of Detroit’s wish list, but if they are unable to complete a blockbuster deal like this in the offseason, the Tigers’ other top needs this winter include another reliever and a couple of depth starters.
For the Angels, they are likely headed for another rebuild, and if they are seriously taking offers on both Taylor Ward and Jo Adell, expect a lot of suitors across MLB for the two power bats in the outfield.
