A fter losing Nickeil Walker-Alexander to the Atlanta Hawks, the Minnesota Timberwolves are eyeing a former Sixth Man and Rookie of the Year to replace the 3-and-D wing on their bench.
According to NBA insider Jake Fischer, the Timberwolves are one of the eight teams that have expressed interest in veteran guard Malcolm Brogdon.
“League sources say that the Wizards are open to sign-and-trade discussions to facilitate Brogdon’s exit and a slew of teams have registered varying levels of interest in the 32-year-old. That list includes the Clippers, Suns and Lakers as well as the Warriors, Timberwolves, Pelicans, Kings and Bucks,” Fischer wrote.

Brogdon is coming off his second-lowest scoring season in his career. A left ankle sprain sidelined him for the final 28 games after only playing a career-low 24 games.
The 6-foot-5 guard averaged 12.7 points while shooting a career-worst 28.6% from the three-point line, 4.1 assists and 3.8 rebounds in 23.5 minutes per game for the tanking Wizards.
Injuries have derailed his once-promising career. He has not played over 70 games since his rookie season. Since the Boston Celtics shipped him to Portland in 2023, Brogdon has only played in 63 games across the last two seasons.
When healthy, Brogdon provides a steady hand and tough perimeter defense with his 6 feet 10.5 inches wingspan. He could start next to Anthony Edwards or come off the bench and team up with another former Sixth Man of the Year Naz Reid to lead the Timberwolves’ second unit.
Timberwolves Chose Big Men Over Nickel Walker-Alexander
The Timberwolves entered the offseason with a limited spending power that can only bring two of Julius Randle, Reid and Walker-Alexander. They chose the two big men that left Walker-Alexander with no choice but to look for his big payday elsewhere.
The Timberwolves brought back Randle on a three-year, $100 million deal while they rewarded the undrafted Reid a five-year, $125 million contract.
Meanwhile, Walker-Alexander got his big raise in Atlanta, where the Hawks signed him to a four-year, $62 million deal — a massive jump from his previous two-year, $9 million deal.
The Timberwolves still got something in return as Walker-Alexander went to Atlanta via sign-and-trade, in exchange for a 2027 second-round draft pick (Cleveland’s own) and cash considerations.
Nickeil Walker-Alexander Leaves Big Void
Walker-Alexander leaves a big void on Timberwolves bench as he proved to be their Ironman and one of the best 3-and-D wings coming off the bench.
Over the last two seasons, Walker-Alexander was one of only five players in the NBA to have played in all 82 regular-seasons games, joining Harrison Barnes, Mikal Bridges, Jalen Green, and Buddy Hield.
Walker-Alexander averaged 9.4 points on 44/38/78 shooting splits, providing spark off the bench. The 6-foot-5 guard also averaged career-best almost across the board: 3.2 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 25.3 minutes per game. His 141 3-pointers were a career-best, with 125 of them coming from catch-and-shoot, per NBA.com.
On defense, he had a career-high 170 total deflections while grabbing .725% of defensive loose balls, which was the second-highest percentage by any player in the NBA during the 2024-25 season (min. 25 defensive loose balls recovered), per NBA.com.
