The Minnesota Timberwolves had a five-game win streak snapped earlier this week, and they could be without their superstar against the Golden State Warriors on Friday, December 12.
Anthony Edwards is listed as questionable for tonight’s game on the official injury report with right foot soreness. The three-time All-Star had 40 points, nine rebounds and two assists while shooting 71.4% from the field in Minnesota’s last game against the Phoenix Suns on Monday, December 8.
The Georgia product is the primary scoring threat for the Timberwolves, which would make his absence on Friday even more troubling. Stephen Curry is set to return from injury for Golden State, and Minnesota will have to try and keep pace with a fully-loaded Warriors’ backcourt.
Edwards is having the best offensive season of his career, averaging a career high 28.7 points per game while shooting 50% from the field and 41.6% from beyond the arc.
Is Anthony Edwards Playing Tonight?
Edwards’ status has been up in the air all week. Ahead of Monday’s game, he was listed as questionable on the injury report with an illness. Edwards ultimately played and nearly led Minnesota to a victory.
Edwards missed some time earlier this season after suffering a right hamstring strain on October 26 against the Indiana Pacers. His questionable tag for tonight’s game does not appear to be related to that injury.
It could just be a rest day for Edwards, but the timing would certainly be strange, with Minnesota having had three days off this week ahead of facing one of the stronger teams in the Western Conference.
The Timberwolves are likely going to be cautious with Edwards because they certainly need him healthy for the rest of the season. The team will likely evaluate him in pregame warmups and then make a decision on his final status.
Minnesota Timberwolves Evaluating A Trade For Coby White
As the NBA trade deadline draws closer, the rumor mill around the league is heating up. The Timberwolves will reportedly be in the market for a point guard to pair with Edwards, who is not the team’s primary ball handler.
After checking in on the Dallas Mavericks’ Kyrie Irving, Minnesota is now targeting the Chicago Bulls’ Coby White, according to the Chicago Sun-Times’ Joe Cowley. The North Carolina product recently returned from a calf injury that kept him out for the first three weeks of the season.
White is averaging 22 points, 5.4 assists and 2.7 rebounds per game this season. He is an experienced ball handler who could help the Timberwolves play at a faster pace and create more scoring opportunities for Edwards. Minnesota is trying to reach the NBA Finals for the first time in franchise history this year, after falling short in the Western Conference Finals the last two seasons.
