Eddie Howe has indicated that Tino Livramento will miss Newcastle United’s Premier League match against Chelsea on Saturday due to a knee injury.

Livramento was forced off due to a problem with his left knee in the second half of Newcastle’s 2-1 win at home to Fulham in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.

The 23-year-old, who came through Chelsea’s academy, suffered an ACL tear in his left knee during his time at Southampton in April 2022 and was sidelined for nearly a year.

Livramento was also out for two months this season due to ligament damage, again in his left knee.

‘Tino’s injury is the big negative,’ said Howe after Newcastle beat Fulham at St James’ Park.

‘We don’t know but it’s not looking good. It looks like a knee problem, and Tino’s had issues with knee injuries before.

‘He had to come off, and he’s such an honest, dependable lad. That sends worrying signs, really, for his participation maybe in the Chelsea game. Let’s wait and see.’

Meanwhile, Lewis Hall is in contention to return after missing the win over Fulham due to a hamstring issue.

‘Lewis, we’re more positive on,’ Howe said.

‘He couldn’t play today because of tightness in his hamstring. But he has a chance for Chelsea.’

Howe also issued an update on Joelinton, who was left as an unused substitute against Fulham.

‘Joelinton is nursing a groin problem,’ Howe revealed.

‘He’s fit to a point, but it would only be in an emergency situation. Defending a corner in the last few moments for example.

‘He’s training but he’s maybe not executing everything normally.’

Ahead of Saturday’s game against Chelsea at St James’ Park, Newcastle are already without Nick Pope, Dan Burn, Sven Botman, Emil Krafth, Kieran Trippier and Will Osula due to injury.
