Titans Add Rookie RB & Cam Ward’s Miami Teammate Ahead of Seahawks Game

The lowly Tennessee Titans (1-9) made two roster moves that at the very least should energize the fanbase ahead of the team’s matchup with the lethal Seattle Seahawks (7-3).

Tennessee announced Saturday that it has activated rookie running back Kalel Mullings from Injured Reserve, making him eligible to play in Sunday’s game against the Seahawks.

Earlier this month, the Titans designated Mullings to return to practice, opening a three-week window for him to work with the team. He has practiced for the past two weeks. Mullings has appeared in two games this season but has yet to record a carry. He sits behind Tony Pollard and Tyjae Spears on the depth chart.

Titans Elevating Xavier Restrepo, Looking for Miami Magic

The team is also hoping to continue build a once strong quarterback-receiver connection, by activating rookie Xavier Restrepo from the practice squad, who was Cam Ward‘s teammate at the University of Miami.

The 23-year-old wide receiver was one of Ward’s most trusted targets at Miami. Restrepo delivered two highly productive seasons with the Hurricanes, topping 1,000 receiving yards in back-to-back years. In his final season with Ward at quarterback, he led the ACC in both receiving yards (1,127) and receiving touchdowns (11).

Despite that success, Restrepo went undrafted and has yet to play an NFL snap. Ward has struggled to find consistency on offense this season, and a lack of proven weapons has been a major factor. Although Restrepo is a familiar and reliable option from their college days, Tennessee had not yet given Ward’s former teammate an opportunity.

Restrepo Willing to Play Special Teams if it Helps

Restrepo discussed the possibility of making his NFL debut earlier this week.

“I’m a person driven by faith and hard work. Just keeping my faith strong and coming to work every single day preparing like I’m going to play each and every single week,” Restrepo said.

He continued, “If my number does get called this week I’ll be prepared just like I was 2-3 weeks ago. Ever since the beginning of the season I’ve been trying to get more acclimated to special teams and I feel like I’m improving more each and every single day.”

Restrepo Should See the Field Due to Injuries

Restrepo is receiving a standard gameday elevation from the practice squad as Tennessee continues to deal with significant attrition at wide receiver. Calvin Ridley is out for the season with a broken leg, Tyler Lockett has been released, Bryce Oliver remains on IR with a lingering knee issue, and Elic Ayomanor will miss this week due to a hamstring injury.

That leaves the Titans with four healthy receivers on the active roster: Chimere Dike—who carries no injury designation despite last week’s chest contusion—Van Jefferson, Mason Kinsey, and James Proche. Both Proche and Kinsey were previously on the practice squad alongside Restrepo but have since been elevated to full-time roles as the team’s depth has thinned.
