Titans’ Callahan Goes Off on Reporter Following Loss

Not many people in the Tennessee Titans‘ organization can be in a particularly good mood these days. Last season, they won three games all year, got the No. 1-overall pick in the draft, kept head coach Brian Callahan despite everyone saying he should go and have now gotten off to an 0-4 start to the 2025 season.

If you are scoring at home, that is 10 consecutive losses for the Titans.

In the team’s meeting room inside Nissan Stadium there are two words posted that I guess the team is supposed to read and believe in or something. Those words are “resilient” and “relentless.” It’s very important that the players read them and that the media doesn’t ask about them, just ask long-time Titans‘ reporter Paul Kuharsky.

He asked Callahan about them and he didn’t like it. You can watch the exchange here:

Don’t ask whether the Tennessee Titans are resilient and/or relentless

Kuharsky, a former ESPN reporter, has covered the Titans franchise since the Houston days. He’s not some blogger/influencer who just got a new WordPress site. He asked Callahan point blank about the two words in the locker room.

“Do you think this is a resilient and relentless football team?” asked Kuharsky.

“I know what you’re doing there, Paul,” Callahan quipped back. “I know what you’re doing. And I’m not gonna answer that sh*t right now.”

Kuharsky tried to clarify that he was only asking about those words because of where they are displayed.

“I’m just gonna compose myself before I say something I’d regret,” added Callahan. “But yes, I think this team is resilient. I think it is relentless. We haven’t played good enough football, and I think those are two very different things.”

Callahan then cooled off a bit and launched into something about hard work and…you know the drill. Give him a break if he’s cranky, his team is putrid.

Not the first time the Tennessee Titans’ head coach got into it with Kuharsky

After Week 1’s not-as-bad-as-most-of-them loss to the Denver Broncos 20-12, Kuharsky had some questions about the passing game. Specifically, he wondered whether throwing the ball sideways so often was a good idea and whether or not throwing deep would be something to consider.

“Did you have the play calls, Paul? Did you see them?” Callahan snapped.

Kuharsky – again – attempted to clarify the question that got Callahan’s blood boiling by asking what he was hoping to achieve with them.

“We had a couple of aggressive play calls down the field, trying to work across the field with some of the man coverage they were playing,” Callahan said. “We just didn’t hold up well enough in protection.”

And, who can forget Callahan’s expletive-laden tirade against a reporter last year following – you guessed it – another loss?

“I mean, you really want to get me going today?” Callahan said. “Yeah, I think, to be honest with you, I think it’s complete and total bulls**t, if you want my honest opinion. These guys are tough f*ckers man. They go after it everyday. They play hard as hell. And at no point have we ever put on tape at any point this season that this is a soft football team. Like, I can’t even wrap my mind around how that would even be a conversation. Like, just because we don’t win games doesn’t mean we’re soft. These guys play their ass off. They play hard, they play physical. You can ask any team that plays against us that when they come off the field they know they played us.”

Callahan can take his frustrations out on Kuharsky or any other reporter he wants. The bottom line is that the Titans are awful and he’s eventually going to be held accountable by more people than just the media.
